Ok my mistake, you did mention tech briefly. But it wasn’t as obvious because it was so seamless with all the other beautifully fantastical prose, haha! I still would like to see Vasha interact with a different piece of tech.
Perhaps there could be some kind of cool fish tank, filled with the goldfish. Vasha could think of them as pitiful t…[Read more]

ok first of all it was BEAUTIFULLY written! You have a gorgeous imagination. I loved the way Vasha thought back and forth and doubted. Now on to suggestions.
I think you should introduce the “tech” element of the world sooner. Maybe with a different piece of tech. It was so fantasy right up until the words “oxygen generator”.
I also th…[Read more]

@corissa @cassandraia@literatureforthelight @eden-anderson @kate
here are some ideas/suggestions! No need to use them, but hopefully there’s some inspiration for those of you writing.

I keep losing my text when I reply because I can’t figure out tagging 🤦🏻♀️
I think it’s going great so far and I have a couple of ideas to help whoever is writing. I have too much going on right now to draft, and I don’t feel like I’m experienced enough with depression to do first person perspective, but I can offer suggestions and (semi)…[Read more]

Hey everyone!
I’m reminded of a comic about depression in which the author (who was telling a true story) was experiencing a dark moment in the kitchen floor and then saw a kernel of shriveled corn under the fridge and… laughed. Like ridiculously hard! That stupid piece of corn, stuck under the fridge! It can’t move! It just stayed there and…[Read more]

I am so happy with it! It’s much stronger, and still very true to the feel you were going for before. I love it!

It’s really good! Thank you for drafting it 🙂
I did get a little lost deciphering your feelings from Alira’s, and placing who was saying what. But overall, it had a great feel to it!

@daeus-lamb she was suggested by a fellow author friend of mine. We met at a coffee shop and got to talk for a while, and she told me how she became an editor and what she valued as a fellow writer. I could tell she would be honest with me and also focus on my problem areas based on that conversation.

Please draft it! I think you really have something! My only question is, why two men? Why not just one? It could leave it open for a “reunion” between the guide woman and the soldier.

@germaine-han If your story is anything like mine, it has a beating heart that is really good! It’s just that the flesh and bones need work. I had to give it distances, let it gather a little dust, before I went back in. Taking time away really helped me see what was wrong and not feel so heartbroken about cutting it.
I’m also one of those crazy…[Read more]

Happy Wednesday! I wanted to take a second to talk about the developmental edit that I received since a lot of you were interested in how it went. So, tiny backstory: this book has been with me for roughly 11 years now. I started it for fun, and it went through multiple evolutions before I actually hunkered down, revised it, and felt like I wrote…[Read more]

True! I didn’t think about it like that. I really like your idea about the reader being Death looking for people to take away. Very intriguing!

I kind of see two ideas running:
1) A story being told to the reader
2) The reader not knowing who they are exactly
We could combine them… I’m in the fantasy camp, personally. I like the idea of “Death” (a character) dropping clues maybe leading up to the reader’s death, and then they’d realize they were dead.
Thinking about this makes me…[Read more]

What if we did something where the reader isn’t sure “who” they are at the start? Like they have to slowly realize they’re a ghost or a monster or some such thing?

Piperbee replied to the topic Getting a professional edit in the forum Announcements 4 years, 11 months ago
I am about to get my first professional edit back. It’s a developmental edit. I met with my editor and she said that I have a great imagination but way too many characters. I’d love to talk about it more once I get her notes back.
So, she (my editor) mentioned how, in writing, you have the madman (ideas), the architect (planning), the carpenter…[Read more]

I got over 11k 😀 It’s more than I usually do. Or… I guess that’s not totally true. Apparently, I write really fast. I wrote 40k in 8 days in March. But this time, I had skipped a week of Camp Nanowrimo and so decided to sprint to the finish. So I was motivated, I guess.
3k is really good for a week. Better than the big fat…[Read more]

Quick question since I don’t see the answer immediately: can we add throughout the week? Or should we just tally it up at the end of the week? Like Sunday?
Sorry if this is elsewhere and I’m not looking hard enough!

@daeus-lamb hi! I will have to get back to you on that. I meet with my editor May 4th! I know she’s going to give me some big picture suggestions for changes. It’ll be interesting, since I went through some beta readers already. Hopefully she sees the heart of the story and can help me hone it. I told her I wanted to strike emotion in the rea…[Read more]
