In real history, probably no real reason for the west to start a second secession, other than because they probably could’ve gotten away with it.
But in my story timeline, the town that sparks the new secession movement is under the leadership of individuals who are fed up with Federal over-reach. They disagree with the Civil W…[Read more]

Hello again! The time of our contest draws near, and I was wondering if you wonderful souls would have the time to beta-read the new draft of Goddess / Zauberin (link below), mainly for the changed ending. It now sits under 5k words – but I want to make sure…[Read more]

@karthmin, I appreciate your silver lining!
By the way, I quite liked Endbringer, though I think I still need another couple read-throughs to understand it properly. It’s funny – I immediately began thinking of the song “O’Death”, specifically the cover performed for Until Dawn – which I totally wasn’t listening to nonstop while writing this…[Read more]

Yes! Trying once again!
Just blew out the first draft like a madman. I had the idea and the outline and inspiration. Gosh my butt hurts – I’ve been sitting or squatting to write since 6 this morning. Praise God above for this – I haven’t felt this inspired in months, if not years.Only…[Read more]

I know I keep saying that I’ll be more consistent on here…but honestly, I keep forgetting 🙂
Anyway, here’s a question:
what’s one interesting fact you learnt from a his-fic book?
I learnt from The Eagle of the Ninth that the ancient British tattooed themselves. This surprised me, because I’d thought that Captain Cook, when he’d returned from…[Read more]

Glad you’re back…for now anyway?! 🙂
UGH! Yes, those are way too common…and SO irritating!
Off the top of my head… the fact that knights (which are somehow all too common and appear at all the right times for no particular reason) wear complete armor + helmet all the time! They would seriously…[Read more]

I swear I haven’t forgotten you all, just have had a really bad and crazy busy few weeks.
So I’m back again!
The question for this week is:
What is a common historical inaccuracy that really annoys you? (If you need to rant, feel free to include more than one!)

I was gone too long again. I feel like I missed so much! First of all, hello @lin! 😀 Welcome! That’s a very interesting selection of time periods/places you like! Have you read the Viking Quest series by Lois Walfrid Johnson? And how old are you? (If you’re willing to say.)
I see the confusion about @valtmy was resolved, but I’m here…[Read more]

Hey Erekdale,
So I’ve been working on a short story lately, originally intended as a sorta light-hearted coming-of-age prequel to my novel (one of several stories), with the protagonist, Erhard, as a twelve year old on the beginning of his journey into knighthood.
Without going into too much detail, he gets unknowingly involved in a theft ring,…[Read more]

😀 Multiple, depending on the book. He wrote his books from accounts written by people who lived in the era he wrote about. Can I ask what made you say his work was historically inacurate, or is it some specific book(s)? I have always found it to be incredibly reliable as he wrote it from first-hand accounts.
I must say, I write…[Read more]

@northerner I agree, anything written in the time period you’re researching is always the best!

Sorry for causing the misunderstanding. I could have made myself clearer. Since my stories are so deliberately historically inaccurate, I had to ask for permission to be here. 😛
I searched out the book. It sounds interesting! 😀

… I am writing fantasy. Historical fantasy, that is. I have never claimed to be an honourable historical fictioner 😛 In my stories I have never used the names of the real societies or even referenced the real names of the religions or philosophies practised during those times. Hey guys,
Its been a while since this thread was active, but I absolutely love the chances we get on here to chat about his-fic so I was thinking we could revitalize it.
Other than the things we already discuss on here, I was thinking we could put together a twice weekly (or just weekly) discussion question. Say, on a certain day each week, I…[Read more]

@seekjustice @rochellaine @selah-chelyah @ashira @northerner Thank you so much everyone for helping me!! you guys are great. I really needed the question answered. The reason I asked the question is because it’s for my story. I don’t like giving too much away but The story is about a Victorian version of Moses… in a way LOL
