@maddiejay is our guild leader.
Interestingly enough, we have no symbol yet, and some of us have badges from other guilds. BUT WE SHALL PROVE OURSELVES TO BE THE BEST GUILD OF EMBERITES EVER TO BE SEEN!

I memorized Nothing Gold Can Stay when I was younger because I loved it so much (I also was assigned to memorize a poem, but hey, I killed two birds with one stone).
I liked Billy Collins Poetry! It took me a bit to get used to, but it’s growing on me. I liked What I Learned Today, Room of a Thousand Miles and Lines Lost Among Trees…[Read more]

@h-jones Glad to be tagged here – thanks Heather! 🙂
@maddiejay I love Emily Dickinson’s works. Do you have any favorites?
@kb-writer “To a Wildflower Friend” is also the first poem I read on Story Embers, and it’s still one of my favorites, not to add your “The Lord is on Our Side” and Graham Jackson’s “Billows”.
Getting to bed now, since…[Read more]

@literatureforthelight and @maddiejay, Six of Crows 😀 <3 I love both Inej and Kaz (though Inej is my favorite; sorry, Maddie). Also, @samuel, I just ordered Ender’s Game today (before I read this) because I’ve been intending to read it. I’ve heard awesome things.
@kate, I agree about Luke Skywalker. He is *soooooo* whiny! 😛
My favorite…[Read more]

*Ecstatic gasp* You guys are geeking out about characters! Excellent; let me jump right in here.
Call me one of the masses, but I’m on a Loki craze right now, probably because he’s one of the only well-developed villains I’ve ever stumbled across. *Gazes dreamily into the distance* And…his costume…and his sarcasm…
And I still like Margus…[Read more]

Dear Saxon Scribe,
Imagine you’re a Viking or one of those other early explorers of America. Since you were five, your grizzly uncle has told you stories about the time his vessel was blown off course and he spied afar off a coastland peeking through the mists.
Now, twenty years older, you sit on the prow of your boat and a wild country…[Read more]

Just watched this video and thought it would be good to share it here.
It’s in a playlist about composing music, but I think this video is applicable to any creative process.
So, how do you guys “get in the way of inspiration”?

Daeus Lamb started the topic The awful dilemma: how to explain your story world in the forum 7 years, 5 months ago
Hey Saxon Scribes,
To be honest, this post is more about me learning from you all then offering any great wisdom. When you have a complex story world, anything from a fantasy world or ancient Persia, you’ve probably faced this huge dilemma.
On the one hand, readers could be extremely confused (maybe they’ll even completely misinterpret what is…[Read more]

Well guys, I really appreciate all this feedback. It looks like the three main topics everyone wants to hear about are theme, plot, and worldbuilding but worldbuilding got the most votes by a small margin. I’m thinking that’s what we’ll go with.
For those of you who write historical fiction, don’t worry! Yes, I’ll probably cover some aspects of…[Read more]

Hey, guys!
I need some ideas. I have a city that needs a name.
So, the city is a kind of modern (think early 1900s) city, but with an ancient roman/middle eastern twist. That basically means they have an arena for ancient roman style games and an open marketplace squeezed between industrial brick.
Fire away!
Hit me.
I’m open to any…[Read more]

Hey Saxon Scribes,
For something like six months now, we’ve studied character development every week. It’s been a good journey, but now I’m coming to the point where I don’t have a whole lot more to discuss. If anything else comes to mind, I’ll make a topic out of it, but if nothing comes to me, next week I think we could start on something…[Read more]

Guys, this is crazy. A little sad. Absolutely awesome.
The word war. How’d we do?
We actually beat the record from past guild wars! I was amazed. We had 51,082 — a whole novel’s worth in a week.
So, the winner?
……
With 72,127 words, it goes to Parimi Alca. I’m super impressed with those guys, especially since I’ve heard they’re the…[Read more]
