Hey there! Welcome to Story Embers!
I like your Middle Eastern fantasy, and like Zee said, I can’t think of very many like it. Medieval Europe is much more stereotypical.
Haha right?! I totally get the one book turning into three…it just happens, and you can’t really do anything about it. I was originally going to do one…[Read more]

ALSO
I made nian gao! π
Found out that it’s not quite worth the effort, but eh oh well. If you soak it in honey it’s alright haha.

Brilliant plan! Fare thee well on thy mission!
Yep! It was nice. π
Do your parents entrust you with making some of the dishes? I always end up making homemade cranberry sauce. π

Ah yes, he’s a bit of a lesser known author. (Which I am only slightly bitter about, given that C.S. Lewis credits George MacDonald as his inspiration, and EVERYONE knows C.S. Lewis but very few know George MacDonald… π )
Well, personally I like Lillith best, but I have strange tastes. Lillith is just the most random,…[Read more]

Verily, thou willt bring honor to the name of crunchy. Now mine Lieutenant, what shalt be our first mode of attack?
Haha did you enjoy your thanksgiving though? π
Yes, I completely agree. π

True haha. But if there’s one skill I’m glad to have mastered, it’s the art of laughing at myself. Makes my own stupidity a bit easier to bear. π

That’s so cool! I’m glad you could give him a good home.
Ooh I haven’t heard of those, but I’ll look into them. I normally stick to fantasy, but lately I’ve been branching out a lot more. For example, right now I’m reading George Macdonald’s The Curate’s Awakening, which is some cross between a romance and a quest for…[Read more]

I agree with Thwapling, your book sounds really interesting!
I haven’t had anyone interpret a whole story as something other than what I wanted them to, yet. Though, what has happened way too many times is my sister or friend will nag me over and over again about the side characters who have no love interests. They’ll say I need to make…[Read more]

Hello! Welcome to Story Embers!
I think everyone can always use more friends, and am glad to meet you. Out of curiosity, when you do get the chance to read, what genre or author do you like best? Any books that you would especially recommend?
Hope to see you around!
(Also, just need to say that I love your cat’s name. π )

Thanks, I’m glad you liked it!
Do you also write fantasy? π
Obviously there is no other explanation… π
That’s something I’ve always wondered; with tonal languages, like Chinese, do you just flat out say your emotions instead of raising your voice or dropping it to express yourself? Because I’d imagine…[Read more]

Very well! *unsheathes sword* I Lona, by the power vested in me, dub thee Supreme Lieutenant Thwapling of the Crunchy warriors. Rise, mine glorious Lieutenant!
Ah yes. But now that it’s Thanksgiving, and my family has eaten our Thanksgiving meal, I really don’t want to consume or think about any food for a good 12 hours.…[Read more]

Thanks! It’s really helpful hearing others’ opinions on things like this. I think I will try a little harder to incorporate what I hear back from my readers, but remember that as the author, I have a say in it too.
Oh my goodness yes! Difficult, deep, questions are my favorite things to write about just because there’s so…[Read more]

Hello lovely people,
So, recently I had a friend read through half a story I wrote. Her overall response to it was “well that was depressing.” Honestly, I’m alright with that, considering I was trying to represent a broken world. Broken worlds are depressing. Can’t really get around that.
Except, now I’m torn. Part of me feels obligated to make…[Read more]

I hath considered simply dumping a bag of peanuts into the jar or creamy peanut butter, but I fear that will cause riots throughout the household. Side tangent: May I make thee mine lieutenant?
Ooh good choices. I’ve never heard of nian gao either, but now I want to make it. If I do, I’ll let you know how it goes. π
I’d…[Read more]

I hath just been struck with the most mind-wrenching conspiracy. What if the heinous creamy peanut butters invented the comma?? What if this evil may be attributed to them???
Haha I’m just glad you got my sarcasm. I’ve had way too many failed sarcasms over text. XD
Hmmm. I’d say so. *strokes imaginary cat thoughtfully* Or maybe you’re just…[Read more]

Nice! What do you like to paint?

Next time my sister nags me about cleaning our room I’m just going to be like, “this is my therapeutic mess. Don’t you feel calmed?” XD
Thanks! And fine haha not level zero tech skills , but definitely v…[Read more]

I think music is absolutely wonderful. And I’m far from a musician myself, but I love screwing around on the piano. More often though, I listen to people who can actually sing/play haha. π
Do you play an instrument?
Yes, thank goodness. At least for most of my classes. Hard to get out of everything…[Read more]

I’d agree with the ideas people have given so far; make an age gap or make them relatives.
But, if you’d like to keep the ages as they are, or would like to have them not related, then here is yet another idea. π
Really close friends tend to act like they are related. So, the more your characters act like siblings, then…[Read more]
