Hello,
I’m gonna try to keep this short ’cause super long intro threads are scary. 👀
My name is Anna, but you’re welcome to call me Fledge if you prefer. I joined Story Embers back in 2018(??) when it was still new and shiny, but since I’ve not been around much I figured I’d make a new intro thread to meet all the new faces.I’m not actually a writer, but I have a thing for visual storytelling. (Specifically, comics.✨)
I have many WIPS, none of which are accompanied by the golden combo of motivation/time necessary to see to fruition. I’m hoping that changes in the future, but in the meantime, I do what I can when I can. 🙂..Since I determined to keep this short I will leave this at that, but feel free to ask me any questions if you have any desire to get to know each other. 😂 ✌️

November 9, 2020 at 2:59 pm #121540Zee@zeeNice to meet you, Anna/Fledge! Creating comics sounds really fun, but doubly hard, as you have to have good pictures AND a good story. I used to make comic books for my cousins…sadly, the last installment in the series said “To Be Continued” but it never was. Life happened.
Totally random, but do you like Herge’s Tintin comics? They’re old, but they’re classics.
November 9, 2020 at 5:25 pm #121545eden anderson@eden-anderson@the-fledgling-artist Heyyy!!! It’s feel like forever since I’ve talked to you! How have you been doing? 😊 It’s so good to see you around again!

November 9, 2020 at 6:45 pm #121548Brooke@wingiby-iggibyHi!!! First of all, it’s so cool that you write comics. I take it you like to draw? Same here! And I understand not being able to work continually on anything you write. Story of my life, literally. I am working on a fantasy, and I seriously hope that this one will turn out better than my last one, which, of course, I never finished. My name is Brooke, but you can just call me Wing 😉 Anyhow, what type of comics do you enjoy making?

I am familiar with the Tintin comics! But it has been a while since I’ve read any of them. 🙂 I remember thinking they were pretty rad. I take It you’re a fan?
@eden-anderson Hello Eden! It has been absolutely ages, how has life been treating you?? Honestly, I’ve been having a rough time, but I’m managing. 🙂 It’s been a crazy year for most people, haha.
@wingiby-iggiby Nice to meet you, Wing. I do indeed draw! Sometimes, XD What kind of fantasy story are you writing?? Most of my wips are fantasy."Though I'm not yet who I will be, I'm no longer who I was."
November 10, 2020 at 10:04 pm #121597Mischievous Thwapling@mischievous-thwaplingWELCOME BACK!! (Even though I don’t know you from before XD)
Question number one: Did you draw your profile pic and who is it of? (I guess that’s two questions)
Question number two: How long are your comics generally ? (Like how many pages?)
Question number three: What is your most unusual talent?
And this is not a question, more of a comment, but I like your signature! Is it quoting yourself, someone else, or is it a secret? 😛
"I threw stones at the stars, but the whole sky fell."
November 11, 2020 at 11:34 am #121616The Fledgling Artist@the-fledgling-artist@mischievous-thwapling THANKS!! (When did you join SE?? :D)
Yes, I did draw my profile picture! They are two of my ocs, though they’re not from one of my more serious projects. They’re from a collaborative story that some of my friends and I started– and don’t take very seriously. Haha. They are basically space elves. Skip, and his little sister Kavi. :]
I cannot accurately answer your question, because I have never gotten anywhere near finishing one of them, but they would be novel-length stories, content-wise. :]
My most unusual talent… Hmm…My elbows are double-jointed?? :0! ???? (WBY???)
Thanks! I think it’s a paraphrase of something I read in a book?? But the signature is old enough that I don’t recall the book, or how closely the quote is matched vs how much I changed it. x’D I love your quote, btw. :]
How long have you been interested in writing?? Do you want to get published someday?
"Though I'm not yet who I will be, I'm no longer who I was."
November 11, 2020 at 3:23 pm #121621Brooke@wingiby-iggibyHa ha, yeah — I draw when I think I’m actually good at it 😛 Hmmm… short way of explaining my fantasy? It’s about a silversmith’s son who befriends the heir to the throne of Banerow (Prince Kiark) in a quest to end his father’s tyranny. After they do this, though — through a lot of travel, negotiations, fights, hard work, and sadness — a new trial arises. Was Waynot, the evil king, really the villain? And what is going on with Kiark — why is he changing for the worse?
Ok, sorry, I got a little carried away there 😛 But what are your fantasies about? And they are novel length?!?! Whoa. (sorry, I tend to intrude on other people’s conversations because they are interesting.) And your profile picture is really good! Do you find it hard to draw people in different poses? I struggle with that and it makes me nuts….

Dude, your wip sounds awesome! Sounds like you’ve put a lot of work into ironing it out. :o!! How long has it been in the works??
My most current project is a comic called Within the Brume. It’s gone through enough changes that I haven’t made an updated summary of it, so I’m not sure the best way to concisely explain what it’s about. :0 !! I could show you some concept doodles if you want? But yeah, content-wise, it’s comparable to a novel or novella. Haha. Maybe somewhere in between?? I guess a lot of people think of comics as being short newspaper type things, but graphic novels (comics) are actually more common than you might think. ;)) My local library has a whole shelf of middle-grade comics, haha.
Though I’ve yet to find many comics that try to tell the kinds of stories I’m passionate about..I do find it very hard to draw people in poses I’ve not practiced… Unfamiliar poses are super hard. But that’s why practicing (with reference pictures!!) Is super important. :D!! It gets significantly easier once you learn to break down the human form into recognizable shapes.

November 11, 2020 at 6:14 pm #121630AnonymousPardon, I’ve been stalking. What stories are you passionate about? That you can’t find in the comics section?
November 12, 2020 at 10:15 am #121661EmilyRemixed@millenniumHi! I haven’t seen you in forever! *you probably don’t remember me…idk*
How goeth life? And art? And such things.
One day you'll be someone's favorite author.
November 12, 2020 at 12:48 pm #121662The Fledgling Artist@the-fledgling-artist@deeprun Haha ’round SE I just take the stalking as a given. 🤣 So you are pardoned. That my friend is a very complex question, haha. You probably didn’t mean it as such, so I’ll try not to ramble. Too much. Just putting it bluntly, I’m a little particular about what I enjoy reading, I guess. The types of stories I usually find in comics aren’t usually very compelling to me. I’m confident that good, wholesome, compelling comics with depth exist, I just have a hard time finding them.
Haha, I say that as if I’m skilled enough to accomplish that myself, but as the tag suggests, I am but a small fledgling artist.@millennium Hello there! I think I remember you?? You were in RPFL for a short bit, right?? Tbh, life isn’t very fun rn, but all things considered, it’s going pretty well. As a result of life not being super fun, art isn’t always super fun either, but I’m still managing to draw pretty constantly. 🙂 How’ve you been? Are you working on any writing projects right now?
"Though I'm not yet who I will be, I'm no longer who I was."
November 12, 2020 at 1:16 pm #121663EmilyRemixed@millenniumWell, I hope your life gets fun again!
Truth be told, my writing is going horribly! I can’t get anything done on any of my projects. I broke my writing habit. 😭 Motivation eludes me.
Other than that…life fares well.
One day you'll be someone's favorite author.
November 12, 2020 at 5:56 pm #121670eden anderson@eden-anderson@the-fledgling-artist Aw, totally feel that! Hope things start looking up soon. ❤️
Life has been treating me…um…interestingly. 😬😂 It definitely hasn’t been all sunshine and roses, but I do have a lot to be thankful for, so I’m trying to keep my chin up.
I doing NaNo this year again, and it’s been going really well, so that’s cool! 😄 I was in a writing slump (and pretty much abhorred my current WIP) but it feels so good to be writing consistently again. And oddly enough, now that I’m working on a different project, I’ve started missing the one I formally hated. Writer’s brains are so weird…🙄

November 12, 2020 at 10:36 pm #121675AnonymousHah, I did ask because I was genuinely curious! And would be happy to hear a longer answer. I feel much the same way. Especially seeing things like Captain Underpants … I’d love to see stories with a strong pictorial bent that had more substance.
