@elizabeth aaHHH!! How did I miss this??!!
Well, better late than never…
How old were you when you started writing?
13. I hated writing up to that point and swore I’d never do it.
Do you want to pursue a career in writing, or do you write just for fun?
Career. The goal is to reach as many people as I can, which means I have to be dedicated…[Read more]

Hi guys,
One element of character development I’ve never heard discussed before is strange ways of speaking. Think of Gollum, Pete the sock man, Spook, etc.
I’m going to propose that these oddities are not only charming but make a story world immersive and strikingly real.
As far as character development goes, all I can say is that I always r…[Read more]

@r-j-karas Thanks. XD I was going to ask about that.
Last day, guys. I plan on doing some serious editing on it this morning. I would appreciate anyone who could be there with me, or at least keep an eye on it. I’ll be keeping an eye peeled here, but I’ll mostly be on the Google doc. Planning on being there sometime around 10:30 or so.

Well hi, @gabbyj. Nice to meet you!
Okay, description;
Taller than average but not by a lot. Slender. Very, very dark (almost black) hair. Oval face, fine nose, long neck. That’s basically all I have so far. Is that good?

@r-j-karas *fastclap, confetti, cheering, balloons, candy, and a pinata.* Good work! I did notice that you didn’t say it was a fish at the beginning. I’m glad to hear that was on purpose. No wonder there were so few visuals in the beginning. 😀

Epic reveal:
I could’t decide on the title Fish: Child, or Child Fish. Votes would be appreciated. Of if you have a better title suggestion, that would also be appreciated.

Hey guys, sorry I’m late this week. I had a lot on my plate.
Better late than never though.
When it comes to character development, one of the stupidest things I ever did was ignore backstory. (Head, this is wall. Wall, meet head.)
I’m still not an expert at it though, so I wanted to ask: how do you develop a character’s backstory? Along the…[Read more]

@m_corinnemusic Hello. And thanks. I’m used to weird, though. @chalice is my sister.
I’m a little afraid to raise my hand here, but I’m pretty comfortable writing in first person. I could write a first draft, whatever we decide to write about, then we could work on the prose from there.

@kate Exactly! Who said dragons had to die by the twentieth century?
@r-m-archer I like the horror idea. Creepy is one of the more fun atmospheres to emulate.
Having that said, I also agree with @gabbyj. I think we should focus more on how we tell this.
By the way, hi, @gabbyj. I don’t remember meeting you. Or @cindy.

Hey Saxon Scribes,
If you checked our guild war calendar recently, you’d know that this is the date for another story prompt competition. I know our story (and we as writers) will benefit a lot if everyone participates and shares their input.
Here’s the prompt for this guild war:

Saxon Scribes,
Lo, guilt is fascinating.
I totally love it. The Scarlet Letter, Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov. These are like butter on bread to me.
Guilt is something we don’t see a lot these days. About the only times it’s used in fiction, it’s used poorly. The guilt isn’t fully built up to, doesn’t feel authentic, and leads t…[Read more]
