Well guys, we have the results for the word war.
If I counted right, our total was 20,961 — an awesome word count!
However, Rillumen nocked it out of the park with 39,179 words. :0
Collectively, all the guilds wrote about 200,000 words in one week! *faints*
While we didn’t win, keep in mind we really weren’t too far off. Some of us were…[Read more]

@gabbyj yeah, I wish I could say I planned it, but it just sort of happened. 😉 It’s fantasy. Somewhere between high fantasy and heroic fantasy; can never quite decide which. 😛
This thread has really got me combing through my files of ideas. I remembered at least three more major parent presences already. I guess I had more than I realized.…[Read more]

Yessssss. All the yes. Great thoughts, everyone.
This is something I’ve been passionate about for a while, but have only taken fairly small steps to addressing in my own work. I need to get on it.
One of my latest projects, though, actually featured a ‘whole’ family— father, mother, and son— who throughout the story (despite clashes,…[Read more]

@gabbyj “How to Train Your Dragon” 1&2 are my all time favorite Dreamworks movies! The relationships are great, and how can you resist Toothless!?! I mean it’s dragons!!! (and I totally didn’t scream the whole time Toothless was about to kill Hiccup. Or sob when Stoic died. I didn’t, Honest! *glances around nervously* Do you think they can tell…[Read more]

Hi everyone!
So right now I’m brainstorming/outlining for my WIP, and in short, I know where I’m going to end, I’ve figured out my beginning, but it’s a little hard for me to continue plot-brainstorming. Maybe it’s because it’s a lot of work, but I’m hesitating to try to create a plot line from the first plot point and getting it to end where I…[Read more]

Let’s talk about the most undervalued character type in all of literature.
Parents.
The obvious fact is that most parents in novels die or are already dead (at least it seems like it). The less obvious fact is that even when they’re around, they’re not very important as parents.
What may be even less obvious is that even when they do matter as…[Read more]

Okay, so I just did a post with the mona lisa in it. Forgive me. It was stuck in my head.
The word war is now over and we hope to announce the winner tomorrow. (If you haven’t given me your word count yet, please go post that in the related thread.)
Right on the coattails of that guild war we have another battle. War is life! *raises…[Read more]

Any other ideas? I’m thinking more like Willow or names that start with S. However, I really like the ideas and may just use one or more of them. Thanks so much @gabbyj

Hey Saxon Scribes,
I hope you don’t mind if I splatter my not-fully-formed thoughts all over this page.
For a while, my writing conscience has nagged me about this topic I call Disposition. To me, it encapsulates everything that makes a scene matter. Having just stepped out of rewriting a scene where I did not use this principle, it got me…[Read more]

“So true, Rachel, we can’t love without knowing. I guess I’ve just learned that pretending is harder than opening up and asking for help. As with everything, I had to learn that the hard way, too. I don’t want to pry, but if you ever want to share more, maybe some specifics of your journey, I’d be happy to hear it. Totally up to you, and no…[Read more]

Guys, we’re in another war.
The six guilds are competing in a massive word war. The guild that collectively writes the most words (for fiction projects) this week wins. That’s all there is to it — very straightforward. The war starts right now and ends Sunday night.
If you’ve been wanting to increase your weekly word count, now is the…[Read more]

Hiya!
We had a family over to our house today and we were hanging out with them all day playing Ultimate Frisbee and Uker (if that’s how you spell it, lol) and gaga ball and stuff.
How ’bout you? How’s your writing going? -
Sorry, I’m horrible at getting on SE consistently. XD I’m doing good! I’m SO RIDICULOUSLY CLOSE FINISHING MY NOVEL I CAN ALMOST TASTE IT!

I can feel my eyes shining (maybe even getting a little misty) as I glance around the circle of young, half-frightened (but determined) earnest faces. Rachel has settled back into her place. Archer leans with one elbow on the table, tracing her fingers absently in the lines of her name. Daeus is still standing in front of the fireplace with his…[Read more]

For a time, I’m content to sit in watchful silence, observing the arrival of the others. @kate ‘s interests me. I really like high concept ideas like that. It sounds like it could turn out amazing.
@gabbyj Your story reminds me of the Dragons of Starlight series by Bryan Davis. Have you read it?

@gabbyj Ha! I’m glad I’m not ruled by dragons. *wipes brow*
Oh, dear. My writing project is rather bulky. 😛 I’m working on a trilogy actually. It’s fantasy — mostly on the realistic side with some mythic level stakes and a splattering of rule-based magic.
The basic premise is that the dark lord of this world has been entrapped in a distant…[Read more]

Fight it… Run from it… Destiny still arrives.
A rather melodramatic observation, considering how happy I am to finally be here.
I stand silent before a half-cold hearth, my back to the long darkness of the hall, and watch the embers burn. Coals lie scattered like isolated cities between charred remains of smoking logs. The smoke drifts past…[Read more]

Hey-yo, Saxon Scribes!
I theorize that you never really know a writer until you know what they write, so I thought it would be a nice icebreaker for us to share what we’re writing at the moment.
What’s the premise, what gets you excited about it, and what’s at the heart of the story?
