So, no, it is not just breaking up chords. You play the melody of the song, but not just that.

Well i can actually play quite a few chords but I would have no idea what most of them are called. Like I can follow along fine but if you asked me to play an A Minor# chord I’d be like “come again?”. I play almost entirely by ear so I do a lot of fingerpicking etc.

I play nylon string, but I learned on  a steel string and just got my new guitar a year ago. I am taking classes on how to play classical. Is the only difference between fingerstyle and classical the kind of music you play?
