Hey guys

It’s been a while since I posted one of these (or anything, really) but when I saw what Jane from Meraki had cooked up (along with help from Daeus and Faith), I had to make sure to share it. If you’re trying to decide whether you want to pursue traditional or self publishing, it’s your lucky week.

Self Publishing vs Traditional…[Read more]

Rillumen has been so inactive lately! Where is everybody? Or has it always been this slow and I never noticed? Not that its bad or anything!

I almost missed the latest word war, so I thought I would remind everyone to quickly send in their total words! The time’s already up, but Daeus Lamb added something today reminding everyone to send in their…[Read more]

Hey y’all!

Time for our next weekly guild discussion. This week we’ve got Jane Maree from Meraki with tips to help us prepare for a professional edit. (If you’re not sure if you need a professional edit, check out Josiah’s great article on the topic.)

If you’re pursuing publishing, whether traditional or self published, a pr…[Read more]

Y’all know what to do.
Let’s get some words.

Hey guys… It is I… Wordsmith. *nods*

Not long ago I took a long break from all this online stuff… and I finished the first draft of my novel. And I want to let you know, that working with Rillumen is one of the greatest, if not THE greatest reason I actually had it finished in the time-frame of one year. The word-wars have been amazing.…[Read more]

Hey guys, this week our weekly discussion is from Brandon Miller.

(oh. me.)

How and What to Read as Writers:

Okay so, we’re all writers, right? We weave words and spin tales and generally have a good go at reality. For most of us though, our love for stories started on the other side of the experience — as readers. Now that we’re writing, it’…[Read more]

Hey guys!

Have you ever struggled with trying to find time to write? Yeah, me too. Thankfully, Faith Blum has some pointers to help us get the most out of every second of our day (without killing ourselves doing it).

24 hours. 1,440 minutes. 86,400 seconds. That’s how much time we have each day. And yet, it seems like we never have enough h…[Read more]

Hey Everybody!

Time for our next discussion in the Writer’s Life series! This week: Being a (good) Beta Reader.

I don’t think I have any new announcements, so lets get right into it!

Beta reading is a great way to make friends, help others, and even polish your skills.

Today, I want to give you some tips so that, when you beta read, the friend…[Read more]

Deep in the corner, a figure shuffles through the settled blackness.  Dust kicks up under his feet and he starts *cough* to *hack* cough. Oh hey, said “dark figure” is me and said dark room is this little place where we come to learn.

I apologize.

BUT, I also have good news, the Guildmasters have been working together and have decided to share…[Read more]

No, we’re not going on a competitive evangelism spree.

What we are doing, is trying to write the most believable conversion scene.  It’s due two weeks from today, March 25th. So let’s get right on it.

Here’s what we need to do:
– Everyone head over to this doc to brainstorm ideas. Answer these two questions: 1) what elements make up a good…[Read more]

Hey guys!

It’s been a while since our last word war, but the time is upon us again!

And some good news… I’VE ACTUALLY GOT SOME WRITING TO DO.  I’m not done outlining, but I’ve got some actual writing to do.  I’m… excited.

So yeah, WORD WAR.

Instead of going crazy like we normally do, lets try to get 100 words each a day.  That’s not ve…[Read more]

Hey Guys!

Let’s talk about story endings.

(Full disclosure, there’s actually a guild war going on about endings rn, but I missed the announcement to the guildmasters and I don’t want to rush everyone to come up with something in a week, so we’re going to sit this one out and just do some brainstorming.)

So… let’s talk about happy endings,…[Read more]

Hey guys,

I found this great article on Go Teen Writers today and thought I’d share with y’all: https://goteenwriters.com/2019/01/18/what-i-wish-id-known-when-i-decided-to-pursue-writing-as-a-career/

How are your weeks shaping up?  What’s your favorite song right now?  Do you have snow on the ground ou…[Read more]

Dear Rillumen,

Y’all, the squirrels have gotten out of hand. Here I was, just trying to live a simple life and be a successful squirrel wrangler…and they’ve up and kidnapped me, forcing me to do their bidding, leaving me almost no time to write anything or keep up with more than about five and half friends at once.

Translated (and expou…[Read more]

Hey guys!

The holidays have ended and school has started and it’s time to get back to work!  (But it’s like… writing.  Fun work. This’ll be grand.)

So, to start things off, swing over to the accountability forum and share some goals.  (Then I can come around weekly and bug you about them.)  (Also, you’ll get more wri…[Read more]
