      *rushes in and is relieved to find that things haven’t changed much*

      @calidris

      I think I’m going too drop Basil in again sometime. He’s changed a lot since he was last in here – I’ve finally nailed his backstory and motivations, so that’s changed, but he’s no less of an annoying brat XD

      I’d love to see Basil again (never mind that I saw very little of him XD)!

      @jared-williams

      It’s so sweet to see Ku talking with Ehud! The way she’s so worried about saying the wrong thing that would make him push her away is really rather sad. Her character arc sounds awesome and really touching.

        @everyone

        I’m dropping in a character who was in the Character Castle 2.0. To those who were in that castle, he has gone through such a personality/pretty much everything change so that he is unrecognizable. XD

        Conroy Flinston

        Age: around 8-10 (I know, I know, he was in his twenties before, but plans change, drastically in this case XD)

        Appearance: 4 ft. 2 in. (around 127 cm); rather scrawny; messy brick-colored hair; wide dark blue eyes, smudges of dirt on face, arms, and legs; his clothes are very strange: a green shirt with two orange sashes over it, making an X across his torso; a blue, shawl-like covering over his shirt and sashes that comes down to his elbows; purple pants with one pant leg coming to his feet while the other side goes down only to his knee

        Personality: very observative, has little respect for those in authority over him except for his bosses, impulsive, stubborn, confident, curious

        Abilities: quick, flexible, and is very good at spying on people

        Brief Backstory: His parents and older brother were arrested and thrown into jail for treason when he was still a baby, placing him in an orphanage. When he was five, he was recruited to join the network of spies in Nonexistence where he is currently in my book.

        I’ll write up a post for Conroy sometime later.

          Hey Everyone!

          Im new here, but would it be ok if I dropped a villain of mine in here? I’ve been working on this book and the main character is…eh, but the villain needs work…
          If the room is full at the moment that’s ok, just asking.

            Bring him on! We have a good number of characters in here, but the castle certainly isn’t full 😉  right now, there is about three to four separate groups off conversating or doing their own thing and quite a few characters that are not doing much at the moment and are free to interact with… as well as free to interact with really anyone in here. =)

            I don’t think I could recite who all is in here without a lot of “leg work”, but a few big things going on… a group of us are practicing for a surprise dance for Ku’Aya’s birthday. Also, in the room prior to the one we are in now, there were found papers that had pictures of characters in the castle. many of them had red ‘x’s over them and their eyes were poked out. Nothing has come of that yet… hehe.

            The castle has also issued an ultimatum. After the dance party, where the castle has graciously provided a stage and a dinner, the castle demands the castle participants to reveal their greatest/deepest regret. If they do not, (not stated by the castle, but generally agreed upon by the authors….) the castle will force the characters to live out their regrets on the stage in front of everyone.

            and I think that’s pretty much where we all are… feel free to throw a wrench or two in the works, or just feel things out as things progress. =) Really not any clear cut rules here aside from the ones stated at the beginning… (though some of those can be stretched a bit… I don’t think anyone cares if more than one character is brought in. more than a few of us have two or so in here…)

            @inkhorn

            (wicked grin)

            Conroy sounds like an intersting, fun character. I can tell, at least from the description… Abirami will immediately want to adopt/father/bring him under his wing… and Ku’Aya will likely dislike Conroy right away, for slightly but similar reasons. =)

              Abirami

              Ophelia turned, her face shining with exuberance.

              “Did that make sense?” she asked.

              Did it make sense?

              I nodded.

              Sure, I definitely saw what they did… now, could I do that? That was a different question altogether.

              “Can you just try the lift again?” she asked, sliding her left foot toward me ever so slightly. “Maybe I can help.”

              Jade nodded vigorously and stepped away, her arms still crossed. She reached her original position, dropped her arms, and began the routine once more, coming straight at me.

              Oh no… gah, calm down. Okay. Catch her. Be more fluid. Tip toes. Is this close enough? Spin in one motion. Don’t drop her. Tip toes. Is she really supposed to be this close?

              Jade was still glaring at me.

              I set her down and sighed, letting my shoulders droop with my spirits.

              Ophelia approached me and placed an encouraging hand on my shoulder. “You don’t have to stand on your toes,”  she said.

              I don’t?

              “It just makes you unstable,” she continued. “There’s not enough time to really worry about technique, it’s better to just focus on not falling over.”

              “Oh.” The gap between me and these dancers became more and more evident the more we practiced. Was it really okay for me to be in this with them?

              Ophelia gave me a knowing smile, and I had to wonder if I had imagined the quiet little chuckle. “I know, it’s rather awkward,” she said.

              Was I really that obvious? Just how could they get so close and not have it be so super awkward? I mean, what if I accidentally rubbed up against… If there wasn’t steam coming out my ears, then I was sure it was fogging up my mind for all the flames of embarrassment I felt upon my face.

              “Here,” Ophelia offered, “what if you pick her up from the waist, instead of from the… armpits.”

              I looked at her curiously. From the waist? Thinking to the time when I tried to do that with Setti, he had cried out.

              “Wouldn’t that hurt her though?” I asked.

              Jade scoffed. “You don’t need to worry about me.”

              “You sure?” I asked, hesitantly glancing at Jade in concern.

              My concern glanced off her glare, squelched by her consternation and superior confidence. A slim, knowing grin graced her lips.

              I stared at my feet. “Okay,” I muttered. ‘I can try it, I guess.”

              Jade gracefully glided over and stood with her back to me. Her hair smelled of lavender. It smelled nice, but nothing like the sweet nectarine scent of princess Puabi.

              I let a small smile break through my anxiety. This was not a betrayal. This was perfectly normal for a dance between… strangers.

              Closing my eyes, I said a quick prayer to the Maker, then augmented the strength of the elk. Strong, yet not overpowering… wouldn’t hurt, right?

              Not knowing any better, I walked around in front of her. She gave me a strange, confused look, but then I held her waist in my hands and effortlessly raised her up three feet into the air.

              Jade let out a small squeal of surprise as she seemed to stand weightless in midair, my hands about her waist. Her hands instinctually dropped down and held onto my wrists.

              I laughed softly at how much easier this felt. There was no pain on Jade’s face, just surprise, and I didn’t feel any restrictions, like I didn’t have to hold her at arm’s length anymore.

              The image of Ophelia and Isais ran through my head, and I felt emboldened to try just a bit of it. But… I didn’t need to tip toe it, and that was a huge added weight of my shoulders.

              Placing my right foot forward and to the left of my other foot, I pushed down and out and spun, swinging us around in a single, fluid spin.

              Jade recovered somewhat from her surprise and spread her arms out, swimming through the air like a hawk through a glide; her chest out as a lion roaring for her pride.

              Adrenaline rushed through me, and the thrill filled my limbs. Remembering seeing the moves from before, I prepared for a jump as I came out of the spin. Took two solid steps and leapt.

              Taken by surprise once more, Jade fell forward and wrapped her arms around my head. She was close. Too close. Her stomach pressed against my head, and I landed and immediately set her down and then dropped further to the ground and backed away.

              “Sorry sorry,” I cried. “So sorry.”

              Jade was silent, her hands on her knees, breathing deep.

              Ophelia ran up. “What are you apologizing for? Sure that was a little… rough, but you did great! With a little more practice and… perhaps some more guidance, you’ll have it down!”

              My knees up toward my chest, I rested my head on them and sighed.

              Jade walked up, her arms on her hips as she continued to take in deep breaths. “Do it just like that, but with my back toward you. I need to always be facing the audience. You understand?”

              I looked up at her, a hint of hope flickering into a light. She still wanted to dance with me?

              I nodded.

              She nodded. “Once more now.”

              Half a dozen tries later, and two more full run-throughs, Ophelia and Jade agreed it was the best it was going to get, so I set off to find Ku, while the others went off to gather the rest of the castle crew.

              Well…. gonna try to move things along. =) Hopefully the next few posts or so will be the dance. 😉

              Hope this is good….whew. Don’t know much about dance, so had to make some educated guesses…. change what you need please.

                It’d be great to have a new character!

                I’ll give you a quick rundown of my other character in the castle, Enydd.

                Enydd is in her twenties and has a laidback personality that conflicts with the short spurts of anger that show up when she is under stress. She also is heavily burdened with guilt over a decision that cut her off from her family.

                @jared-williams

                Conroy sounds like an intersting, fun character. I can tell, at least from the description… Abirami will immediately want to adopt/father/bring him under his wing… and Ku’Aya will likely dislike Conroy right away, for slightly but similar reasons. =)

                Conroy’s reaction to adoption would be, “Cool.” until Abirami starts to watch out for him. XD Actually, it would be good to see Conroy’s reaction to having a brother figure since he’ll eventually be reunited with his brother again.

                CONROY

                “Don’t start wallowing in your own self-pity. If you really want to be accepted, you have to start acting like me and that means feeling sorry for yourself is no longer an option,” the girl, C, continued.

                I choked back a giggle. The guy she was walking with turned his head away from her. I leaned forward. Yup, he was very annoyed. I almost felt sorry for him. Almost. I smiled as I pulled out a sheet of paper from my pocket. I scribbled down OK+C=>:( -…|_o

                The others didn’t think it was important to watch OK, but that was fine. Actually, it was really good. That meant I would get all the credit when they found out he’s a spy. I grinned. The look on Ryker’s would be awesome.

                I walked out onto the street to be carried along with the crowd when a flash of light suddenly erased everything around me.

                “What’s- agh! My eyes!” I shouted. I clapped my hands to my face so hard that my cheeks stung. I hissed.

                Slowly, I peeked between my hands. The light was gone. I rubbed my eyes. “Who did that?” I said loudly.

                My voice echoed in the room. “Cool. This-!” I wasn’t on the street! I was in a theatre. A theatre! I chuckled nervously. “Okay, so, where am I? What’s going on guys? This is a test or something, right?”

                There was a long table in front of me with empty plates on it. “It’s too early to have lunch,” I observed to the empty room. However, the chairs did look comfy. I slid into the chair nearest to me. I gave a happy sigh. “This sure beats standing all day.”

                I looked around the room again. There had to be someone here.

                Voices came from behind me. I twisted around. A stream of people filed in, and they were the strangest people I have ever seen. It wouldn’t be too hard to remember them. There was a lady with blue hair, a girl with green skin (GREEN SKIN!), a man with one blue and one green eye, another man in a long, black coat, and so many more.

                Was this the test? To spy on all these people and pick out the traitor? I scanned the room for somewhere to hide, but it was already too late. They had seen me. Time for Plan B.

                I smiled cheerily at them. “Hi! I hope I didn’t take anyone’s seat. Do any of you know where the waiter is? I’m thirsty.”

                  Alrighty thank y’all!

                  Quick Warning-I tried to make this guy REALLY evil…so he will have some satanisitc traits.

                  Emperor Saevus looked around. He had no idea why he had suddenly been pulled off and away from his throne, and thrown in this place…whatever it was. But who cared. All he cared about was that he got his interests done, no exceptions.

                  He looked around the room. There seemed to be nothing in this small room, except a small sputtering torch mounted on the wall. The low ceiling ment he had to stoop slightly to avoid hitting the ceiling with the steel spikes on his helmet crown. The floor below was made of stone, but even that didn’t stop The Emperor from looking down and realizing that he was in a room above another, and the floor looked like it might break under him. What with all the weight from Saevus and his seven foot five height, and the three hundred plus pounds of body armor, that seemed very likely to him. Time to leave before it happened.

                  Pulling his great sword out, the flames from it illuminated the room. Advancing, he pushed the door open with his left hand, sword in his right, and entered into a long hallway.

                  Standing up, Saevus looked down the hall. Time to find out who on earth was here, he thought. And then we shall see who they bow down to now…

                  Saevus set off down the hall, his cape billowing out behind, the smoke from his sword and helmet trailing behind him, and his armor jingling with every step. Before long…I will find them. I will route them out, scum that they are. For I. Am. SAEVUS.

                  That is what I’ll start with lol. Thanks for letting me join.

                    Jade gracefully glided over and stood with her back to me. Her hair smelled of lavender.

                    Just a little thing, but her hair probably doesn’t smell like that 😂. Honestly, she likely smells like fish, antiseptic, and Rosemary’s experiments.

                      I’m glad to hear that!  Basil certainly isn’t my most lovable character, but I have such a soft spot for him.  He’s also got a VERY strong connection to Kit, so I’m looking forward to exploring that dynamic more in here!

                      Would you like to do an interaction between Val and Conroy?

                      @ethan-leonard
                        Welcome!  I’m curious about Emperor Saevus – I’m assuming he comes from a fantasy world, since he seems to be the “dark lord” type.  What’s this story about, and what’s his role in it?

                      Here’s a quick rundown of who I have in the castle right now:

                      Kit: Kit is one of many in a powerful, wealthy family – one of the five “ruling” houses of his city, Spire.  He’s very well connected, but he’s kind of been expelled from this social circle (he confided a very personal struggle with a close friend, but that friend ended up accidentally sharing it in a moment of weakness…it eventually got Kit ostracized, and needless to say these two aren’t friends anymore.)  He’s very fashion conscious and rather flamboyant, extremely extroverted, and he and his younger brother are both adopted!

                      Kit and his brothers are also guarding a rather noble (if not highly illegal) secret right now.  He’s extremely close with all but one (that’s a whole other can of worms though), but is especially close to his adopted brother, Milo.

                      Valencia: Valencia is also a member of one of Spire’s ruling families – but hers has always been in conflict with Kit’s.  Val is autistic, and has had a pretty bad experience when it comes to making and keeping friends – she’s unfortunately been used, ignored, and excluded by a lot of people in her social circle.  She’s become extremely guarded as a result – even though she craves deep and meaningful relationships – and like Kit, is no longer actively involved in this social circle.  She’s an only child, and is not close with either of her parents.

                      Kit and Val have had a very rocky past together, but they’ve been forced to collaborate to find a mutual connection whose disappeared.

                      As far as appearance goes, I’ve got some art of them on the previous page 🙂

                      Anyways, if you’d like Emperor Saevus to interact with a rather obnoxious and unorthodox “aristocrat” of sorts…Kit is completely free right now XD

                            Valencia:

                            “Hi! I hope I didn’t take anyone’s seat. Do any of you know where the waiter is? I’m thirsty.”  I look down at a red haired boy in the strangest clothes I’d ever seen.  I tilt my head, then smile halfheartedly.

                            “I don’t know about a waiter, but I might have some water.”  I root through my messenger bag, shoving aside pens and snacks until I grasp the bronze flask.  I unscrew the lid and squint inside – it’s only about halfway full, so I’ll have to use it sparingly.

                            I scan the crowd for Kit’s cotton candy hair.  He’s got a flask too, but I’m pretty sure it’s filled with something a bit stronger.  I wonder if he’s got any water…

                            I’m pretty sure he left it in the car, anyways.

                            I sigh, and grab the wine glass near the boy’s plate, filling it about a third of the way.

                            “Here you go.  Don’t spill it, ’cause I don’t have much left.”  That sounded kind of blunt.  I smile down at him as he takes the glass, a worthless attempt to smooth the edge off that statement.  I shift uncomfortably, mind racing in a desperate search for some other solution – more hollow small talk to plaster over the apparent gap in my etiquette.

                            “What’s your name?”  I tilt the inflection in a cheerful, inquisitive question.  It always feels so plastic and artificial, but I think it makes people like me more.  Regardless of what I feel, I hope it made him feel more welcomed.

                            He is just a kid, after all, and he’s all alone here.  And it’s not like I really have anyone to talk to either – I’m not about to wade through that sea of strangers just to bicker with Kit again.

                            @inkhorn
                            I’m interested to see Conroy’s response!

                              Sure why not? Let Saevus’ first action to not be trying to dominate the castle lol. Yes, he is from a fantasy novel, ‘dark lord’ kinda type guy, but as for the WIP I don’t even have a name for it yet but its about this guy named Miles Regulus who is trying to take back the throne that Saevus stole from him years ago.

                                  I’ll start. I’ll set the stage, and then you bring in Kit. And we’ll see what happens.

                                  Saevus proceeded down the hall. The hallway was long and narrow, with torches mounted at regular intervals on the walls. With every step Saevus took, his plate and mail armor jingled and echoed off of the walls, announcing the newcomer long before anyone could see the source.

                                  As he walked, he kept his eyes peeled for anyone hiding in this hall. No one appeared though, even when he reached the end of the hall.

                                  Here, the hall ended in a door. A big double door with gold doorknobs, intricate carvings, and even steel plated with silver and set with gems for the hinges. Saevus examined the beautiful doors. The top of the door stood about level with his eyes.

                                  Stepping back, Saevus swung his sword and blasted it through the doors. A shower of splinters and flames erupted. A second blow, and the door way was clear. He stepped through, standing up to his full height as he entered whatever lay behind.

                                  And now you would bring in Kit
