It is funny and cool how ideas for books will just pop into you head. I just had that happen to me driving home from a shopping trip. Usually it starts with a thought related to whatever you are doing, then it sparks a fire of thought. Wow, did I just say that? I’m not the detailed/metaphor type. That’s my sister.
Anyway, it’s great…[Read more]

I looked at your book. It sounds really cool.😄
I’m working on one book right now…I might be halfway done with the first draft, but I’m not sure.😆 Pantser.😉 I probably have about 20 other books in my head, and 1 or 2 that I’ve started and never finished. It’s weird how writing has forced me to start thinking in years, (like an…[Read more]

@zee, I’m not sure! I don’t think most people rewrite their characters ages, it was just a question that popped into my head. XD
I think it would be interesting to know if anyone has done that before. It would really change the plot of most books, I think, to make your main character go from eleven to thirty-one, but it would be an interesting challenge.

That’s cool, how many books are you writing right now? I have one I’m currently writing and four more in my head (I wrote down a little), and one I’m taking a break from.
Thank you so much for your interest in my book! I have a goal of at least 25 copies downloaded a day, and I’m failing today’s goal. I have eighteen.

Ever since I was little, my characters have always been a few years older than me, or late teens. Right now (I think I’m improving😄) my main character is in his 60’s…but he’s a wizard, so he seems younger. In my other books, my MC’s are 17, and 9.
I’ll try to check out your book.

I like the idea of having a young child for a main character, and I’ve written short stories with children, but so far all my novels star adults…and a couple of older teenagers. Re-writing my characters as younger would really mess with the stories’ plots (because they are romances) but with a different genre, this would be an interesting…[Read more]

Hi!
Question: what age group do you usually have for your main characters? I always make my main character a kid and surround him or her with other kids. Have you ever tried re-writing your character’s age? If so, how much did it change the story?
Also, in case you haven’t heard, I published a book yesterday that is completely free on Amazon for…[Read more]

My book is called, “Memory Lane Was Moved”. It is for ages 9-12, but any age can read it. It is FREE for five days starting today! I would love it if you would tell your friends about it (especially the ones with kids)! Here is the link.
Fun fact, the Jason Bourne movies inspired this book!

Yes, I’d love to help!
The more eyes, the better!
Indeed mam.
I will do the same for you.
“you could give as much or as little critique as you felt in the mood for”
Thank you for offering to read my book.

Gracie, I totally understand if you’ll be busy, but if you’re willing to help, I don’t mind if it takes a while. I could send you the story chapter by chapter, and I wouldn’t send a new one until you were through with the one that came before, so you wouldn’t feel backlogged. And you could give as much or as little critique as you felt in the mood…[Read more]

character development
I’ll tag you to a character building game on here.
It’s helped me with learning about and rounding some of my characters.
Would you be interested in giving me a more in-depth critique of the whole thing as I go along?
Interested, yes, very. (But I’m not sure you want me to do it.)
Disclaimer: I’m not sure if I’d be a very…[Read more]

Thanks for reading, Gracie! I appreciate it. Yes, this is by no means a finalized draft, so I’m sure there are plenty of typos lurking. At this point, I’m looking more at story flow, possible plot holes, character development–stuff like that.
Would you be interested in giving me a more in-depth critique of the whole thing as I go along? If so,…[Read more]

Okay, here’s the idea. Would you be willing to put your email up here? On this thread? It won’t show on the ‘recent activity’ page.
Unless someone’s specifically looking for this thread (or a part of the conversation) they shouldn’t find it. And then you can erase what you put on this thread, where you can’t on the other.
-
Sure, that sounds good. I’m still figuring out all the nuts and bolts of this site. Here’s my email: btznvnt@gmail.com
Now you can just send an email to me, and then I’ll have your address, and you won’t have to put it on the forum at all.

Thanks!

I actually haven’t received an email from you yet. If you’ve changed your mind about critiquing for me, that’s fine, but I just wanted to let you know in case you thought I’d received it.
-
-
No! I still would like to critique! I sent an email to you, it just didn’t go through. I will be trying again as soon as I’m done with this post.
-
Ok, I sent it.

I love your story past and plan! With that description, I would buy it.
I saw a few minor typos, but that (from my point of view) was all that was wrong per se.
I liked how you described the atmosphere of the old man’s home. And then this:
a dark sadness without an end in sight.
That stuck with me.
….When he saw them, he stopped…

As this is the third book in a series, it might be a little confusing to just jump in–so, a little background is in order. While the series genre is Romantic Suspense, we also have some fantasy/alternative history elements at play due to the fact that the stories are set in Sevia. It’s a fictional Eastern European country, plagued by unrest and…[Read more]

@zee Hey! Nice to meet you!
I think if you want feedback, you just ask, and people can jump on if they’d like.
If you tell me a little bit more about your story, I might be interested. Around StoryEmbers, we love reading and helping out with other people’s stories.

Ok, sounds good! My WIP is the third book in a series; the first two have already been published. The series genre is technically Romantic Suspense, but since the stories are set in the fictional country of Sevia, I also have a fantasy/alternative history thing going. I’ll go ahead and post Chapter One here on the Contemporary Fiction forum, and…[Read more]

Oh, we love helping people with their current writing works!
So what I normally do, and other people, is post your story in whatever group (fantasy, contemporary fiction, historical fiction, horror, mystery/suspense/thriller, romance, sci fi, or writers of children’s books) it fits in on the forum page. (Make sure you’ve joined that…[Read more]
