Are you making fun of some fantasy cliches in this story? Or does the ‘villain school’ not identify as such?
I somehow ended up with both vampires and werewolves existing in my fantasy world, without originally intending to have either. They bear no resemblance whatsoever to anything from Twilight, however.

@elizabeth A Silent Voice. I haven’t actually watched it yet, but I read the manga it’s based of and loved it. If you figure out how to watch the film in the U.S, tell me. It’s available in the U.K, so I created a British amazon prime account solely for the purpose of ordering the DVD and having it shipped across the Atlantic Ocean. However,…[Read more]

I write high fantasy. I was inspired by Brandon Sanderson’s cosmere to create an immense, detailed universe of my own, a project I’ve been working on for the past year or so. So far I’m only a fraction of the way finished, but I like the ideas I’ve developed so far.

@gracelivinston I don’t think the term ‘Shardpool’ is used in any of Sanderson’s novels. It’s actually a fan-created term used to refer to a pool of liquid Investiture. Basically, they can serve as portals between worlds. Cultivation’s Perpendicularity (from Oathbringer), aka the lake on top of the Horneater peaks, is a Shardpool, as is the lake…[Read more]

@josiah Stephen Burnett hasn’t published any novels that I know of, although he has mentioned working on one in a few of his articles on Speculative Faith. I’ve been greatly influenced by his articles. He’s the main reason I was convinced to break out of my ‘Christian fiction only’ bubble and read Harry Potter.

Yes, the Stormlight Archive is one my favorite series of all time. When I started reading it I thought, ‘How is he going to stretch this out over ten books?’. After Oathbringer, that has changed to ‘how is he going to wrap this all up in just ten books?’.

@pookiemonster I’m teaching myself using a book called A Guide to Japanese Grammar by Tae Kim. I find it very informative, although I’m only a small fraction of the way through it. I would definitely recommend learning the hiragana and katakana before staring that book. You can download some free tracing sheets online to practice those. There’s a…[Read more]

I wanted to learn a language with an alphabet not based on Latin, and heard Japanese was easier than Chinese. Plus, I can watch anime with subtitles to practice. I’m also in a Spanish class, so I watch English movies dubbed into Spanish.

Protagonist: Hileo: selfish, tends to only see people for what they can do for him rather than for who they are

Personally, I am excited to see any character die. Not because I particularly dislike any of them, but because for the past fifteen or so movies, Marvel has been doing the ‘hero sacrifices himself to save the world, oh wait, he serendipitously survived’ trope over, and over, and over again. So some variety would be nice, plus allowing some…[Read more]

Hello. I’m looking forward to to getting more feedback on the rough draft of my story and reading other peoples’ stories.
My current WIP is entitled The Dust Smugglers. I got ‘INTJ’ as a result when I took a personality test, and believe it to be fairly accurate. Most of my POV characters are the same, because I tend to tap into my own e…[Read more]
