Thanks for your input, that helps a lot! I’ve heard about the NaNo official website’s worldviews, and I’m definitely wary about it, as I am with most non-christian forums.
Thanks for mentioning the discord servers! I don’t have discord, but it may be an option!
However, it seems enough people are interested that we could have it on…[Read more]

Thanks for tagging me in Taylor. 🙂
What I hope I’ve showed is that there is more to storytelling than conflict. Moreover, a story can be worth consuming without being driven at every turn by conflict.
First off, I want to say that those to statements in your conclusion (quoted above), I agree with. I have also heard all the p…[Read more]

@taylorclogston – It does me so much good to see not only the way you’ve handled the topic, but also the discussion you’ve encouraged. So, my thanks to you.
Yeah. I don’t think we stand in a place to judge (in the ultimate sense) Western story telling–though it is arguable we have warrant to discuss and criticize any form of literature,…[Read more]

@taylorclogston – Bravo! That was both extremely engaging and highly insightful. The contrast between typical Western structure vs Eastern structure is possibly one that writers should understand better than any other contrast–for in it lies every concept you discussed.
I’ve found that the Western structure hurts my brain, as a writer and…[Read more]

My goal is to create a story that’s good enough, not one that’s perfect, because I know I’ll grow faster by learning from mistakes on finished products than polishing the same story for three years (which I’ve also done).
I very much agree with this sentiment, especially when it comes to the quality of one’s prose. They’ll never b…[Read more]

If I dictated, my prose wouldn’t even be readable.
What’s your process after you finish the first draft? Do you write a second draft, or do you just do lots of editing?

Ack, I’m so abominably late, I’m so so sorry! I can’t keep up with another castle right now, at least I better not (ahhhh shiny new project syndrome!). But maybe I can give it a boost by inviting a couple other people? My favorite part is how unpredictable character castle are and you really have to know your characters to roleplay them when you c…[Read more]

Wow, y’all have some amazing ideas and theories! I really loved reading them!
The people we love are beautiful to us.
You’re totally right, and it’s such a cool thing if you think about it!
I think it translates over to books (and movies), but I also think writers/film producers use appearance to enhance our terror of villains, ( )…

Great question! These are a few thoughts I had on it:
Since villains are supposed to be evil, we often give them features associated with evil. Dark clothing tells readers that this person chose to appear negatively, that they chose to hide from the light and embrace the shadows. Physical features can also reflect villiany.…[Read more]

@taylorclogston Ah, time travel isn’t too big in it, just setting up the main plot. It’s more thriller. I haven’t watched the anime before, but I did enjoy the manga thoroughly. I’d say that usually the manga is better than the anime, though.

Thanks! I’m not that familiar with karate, except that you earn different belts depending on how long you’ve trained…? (am I close?)
You’re welcome! Ooo, now I’m intrigued by your idea; do you have a name for your MC?

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic Favorite Titles? in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 4 months ago
@taylorclogston Thank you! The Town Where Only I Am Missing, also known as Erased, is one of my favorite manga series! I highly recommend it if you like mystery/time travel.

Aww, thank you! Yes, I did! It’s a digital painting of a character who may become the MC of an idea. Awesome to meet another Ascendence fan, btw! Those books are the best!

It’s a fun book. It’s about a villain who gets amnesia. You can read the original serial on writefury.com. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a light, funny read.

Hi! This looks fun.
So, here’s some of my favorite MG novels in no particular order:
The Ascendance Series (Nielsen)
When You Reach Me (Stead)
Walk Two Moons (Creech)
The Green Ember (Smith)
The Girl Who Drank the Moon (Barnhill)
And here’s my two favorite tv series:
Psych (minus the weird holiday specials)
BBC’s…[Read more]
