@skredder No problem. It’s not a bad thing. *pauses* Are you talking about something I wrote, or part of your story?

@skredder I like the coin slot description a lot. π
@emma-starr Two thumbs up for the picture inspiration! The one with the sunset and the thousands of stars is epic.
@scribbles Yes! Yes, yes, yes. Unpredictable doom is twice as scary in the dark. In that case, our setting sun would bring fear of the unexpected.

Wow, these are all really good ideas.
@Skredder Let’s hold off on that until we’ve worked through the list of ideas together, and then yes please.
So, WOW we already have a list as long as Daeus’, I’m sure.Β Let’s move on to step two!Β Everybody pick one of the listed things and come up with a few good ways it could be a) shown in a non-cliche w…[Read more]

@skredder Oh hi! π
@happyholly_c I lived there about 10 years all together. We used to live in Austin, Sulphur Springs, and Tyler at various points. East Texas is soooo green, yes. It’s gorgeous. Especially when you drive south and get to the pineywoods. There’s a point where you start smelling the pines even from inside the car.

Don’t let it be said that we were the aggressors here; Rillumen is the last guild to enter the conflict.Β However, our honor must be upheld.Β To war we go.
Yesterday, our rival guilds New Wessex and Avensbeck began a war which we must now join.Β The first battle is to be fought this week, through long nights and crammed lunch breaks.Β Want to hel…[Read more]

@skredder This sounds perfectly fine. I think family elements are awesome parts of stories! And I feel like keeping your readers unaware of who the villain actually is is a great way to hook your readers and hype up the suspense. (BUt that might just be me…) π

Hello Embers! *pauses* (Is that the right fan word? Emberites? Emberians? *confused sneeze* [Dogs sneeze a lot jsyk])
I got this idea from KP. Basically, this forum is where y’all can word-barf about your stories and talk with other Embers. You can also talk about your stories and brainstorm with other Embers. π Hope you all like it!

You know you’re a writer when you join a kickboxing class because your protagonist is a kickboxer and you want to know what it feels like so you can write it well later.

@skredder I personally think that’s wonderful! A lot of mainstream stories these days don’t have strong family relationships in them, so there’s definitely a niche for stories that have the opposite π
That could definitely work! Slipping in a few other little clues throughout the story might help as well, just so it doesn’t seem too surprising…[Read more]

@skredder I think having a lot of family elements is great! Just so long as it isn’t the same thing every time (e.g. a brother and his older sister set out to save the world), then I don’t see anything wrong with it. I like doing the same thing with my stories.
Generally, you want to introduce him around the 25% mark. However, you don’t have to…[Read more]
