                                Hem of Healing
Ever since I heard of Jesus, I thought and prayed how I might get near Him. If only I could offer a sacrifice at the Temple, perhaps God would grant my request. But no, the Law forbade it. Even if I could draw near, I had little to offer. All my money had been sp…[Read more]

@rosemarylouise – No problem, hope it was helpful. I added one more little note about adjectives/adverbs for your perusal. 🙂
So what’s your next project? You know what they say, “Write what you know.” This piece was a great example of that. Anything else from your family life, school friends/teachers or anything you could write about? Draw on…[Read more]

@rosemarylouise Ooh, I should go check that story out. 😉
@daeus-lamb Thanks, and I understand what you’re saying. The thing about my religious system is that there are people that are supposed to represent Christians, and basically the story is going to be written with them as the good guys (like the protagonist learns from them and changes her…[Read more]

Hey Saxon Scribes,
I hope you don’t mind if I splatter my not-fully-formed thoughts all over this page.
For a while, my writing conscience has nagged me about this topic I call Disposition. To me, it encapsulates everything that makes a scene matter. Having just stepped out of rewriting a scene where I did not use this principle, it got me…[Read more]

@rosemarylouise Everyone else had done so many comments I think there’s plenty there already, but I wanted to tell you that I did read through it. 🙂 And I loved it. Everything about writer’s block, to the sweet older brother, to the new prescriptive on writing. Pretty sure once you go through it one more time with everyone’s input it’ll be awesome. 🙂

Ohh, itewesting.
1. I think it definitely makes the characters more unique, and unique helps make characters deeper. It’s the 2D, cardboard-ish characters we forget easily, that seem shallow. Deep characters have strong motivations and desires, intense passion for their goal, etc., but if this is all cookie-cutter, it’ll fall flat. The depth has…[Read more]

Great! Thanks for sharing 🙂 I put comments on the document itself. I’m guessing the others are racking up word counts for the new guild war, but I’ll tag a few for later on 🙂
@kate @msqueen8 @r-m-archer @elizabeth @Uh, anybody else we should tag, ladies? 🙂

Guys, we’re in another war.
The six guilds are competing in a massive word war. The guild that collectively writes the most words (for fiction projects) this week wins. That’s all there is to it — very straightforward. The war starts right now and ends Sunday night.
If you’ve been wanting to increase your weekly word count, now is the…[Read more]

@rosemarylouise I’ve never read it, but that sounds extremely interesting!
@daeus-lamb I don’t have a character who speaks funny, but I do try to give each character a different voice. I’m not sure how well it’s working, but it’s safe to say that they don’t all sound identical. I think it would be fun to try writing a character who speaks oddly,…[Read more]

Fight it… Run from it… Destiny still arrives.
A rather melodramatic observation, considering how happy I am to finally be here.
I stand silent before a half-cold hearth, my back to the long darkness of the hall, and watch the embers burn. Coals lie scattered like isolated cities between charred remains of smoking logs. The smoke drifts past…[Read more]

Hey-yo, Saxon Scribes!
I theorize that you never really know a writer until you know what they write, so I thought it would be a nice icebreaker for us to share what we’re writing at the moment.
What’s the premise, what gets you excited about it, and what’s at the heart of the story?

Hi guys,
One element of character development I’ve never heard discussed before is strange ways of speaking. Think of Gollum, Pete the sock man, Spook, etc.
I’m going to propose that these oddities are not only charming but make a story world immersive and strikingly real.
As far as character development goes, all I can say is that I always r…[Read more]

@r-j-karas Thanks. XD I was going to ask about that.
Last day, guys. I plan on doing some serious editing on it this morning. I would appreciate anyone who could be there with me, or at least keep an eye on it. I’ll be keeping an eye peeled here, but I’ll mostly be on the Google doc. Planning on being there sometime around 10:30 or so.

Is that the Broadway Beauty and the Beast? I really like that one! Les Mis is awesome! Do you have a favourite character or song?

I prefer musicals (usually the ones based on classics, like The Count of Monte Cristo, Les Miserables, The Secret Garden etc) but I do listen to a sprinkling of Christian artists, like Casting Crowns and I like Australian country too 🙂
And I like your culture/history mixing! I do that too and its a lot of fun!
