@ashlyvye The calendar is a good idea. 🙂 And my suggestion is that… a suggestion. I write on a different schedule that a LOT of my writing friends. The writing in big chunks really works for me. If you do try it I’d love to know how it goes! But do what works for you!

@scribbles lol. Okay, phew. We’re back on common ground 😛
or just this weird thing where I have to be distracted to focus.
That is probably going in my quote book. XD You’re adorable.

@ashlyvye MUSIC! I listen to a lot of movie soundtracks as well. I love finding ones that kinda match the style of my story. The live Peter Pan movie (2003 version) is probably one of my favorites. It’s got a little of all the feels.
Also HDsoundi is fabulous for soundtracks. They have categories that make it fairly easy to find what tone you…[Read more]

@skredder Hey! It’s the story with the Darger. (right?!) Did you do any more writing on Clouded Fury this weekend?

@ashlyvye Rolena believes in you too 🙂 What Rachel said!
Another thing I like to do with an overwhelming word count goal, is set aside a whole day (sometimes that means like the whole afternoon and evening) and just write. It helps me wipe out a bit chunk of that word count in one day. Makes the goal as a whole seem a lot more feasible and then…[Read more]

Rolena Hatfield replied to the topic Well-done dystopian novels…where can I find 'em? in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 2 months ago
@morreafirebird How could I forget! I also would recommend Jonathon Friesen’s Aquifer. Probably my favorite dystopian. It’s a little obscure which didn’t bother me, but sometimes it can other readers 🙂 (I’ll make a quick note that I don’t recommend his other books because of weird content btw 🙂 This one was good though)

@morreafirebird Brianna called me in 🙂 Yes, The Seer Series by Rachelle Dekker is fabulous (I personally don’t agree with all her theology, but it’s still a great read.) The first book is probably the best flavor of dystopian in the series.
Also I third and fourth The Out of Time Series by Nadine. 🙂

Hey fellow Rillumens!
I love this accountability corner, because if I put something in public writing there’s like a 99% better chance I’ll complete them on time 🙂
I’ve been working on a sci-fi trilogy the first book called Always Been, which was completed in Feb., rewritten twice and is currently in the hands of a couple readers. My goal with…[Read more]

@sir-leeds Well hello there! I actually didn’t realized who was behind this username until now! haha! Super glad you’re here! (I can’t remember. Did I tell you about Story Embers? Or did you hear about us from another source?)
Also, now that I know you like to read things no matter how far along they are… 🙂

@kayla-joy I’ve read a couple of her books. Probably mostly because I’m always interested to see how authors rewrite fairy tales. I’ve read the Princess Spy, The Merchant’s Daughter and half of The Fairest Beauty. (I know… I haven’t finished, but I got distracted so…) Which of her books is your favorite?

@brandon-miller Ugh. Reality. Sometimes I wish I could I live in a world where everybody liked squirrels, ice cream was free and math wasn’t a thing.
@scribbles No prob. Thanks for the backup though. My friends eat squirrel. It’s like their dads favorite dish. So yeah I guess the occasional dinner squirrel is okay. (country girl here to 😉 )

@grace-tolkienista YOU MET SANDERSON?! I’d probably still be proud of that fact 70 years down the road. I’ve read Steelheart and Firefight. But I’ve heard the Mistborn series is best. Haven’t gotten there yet. You?
@brandon-miller Then you’d have an outright war on your hands. We’ll call a truce. No squirrel massacre. No revolutions.

I’m all for the Rillumen pride going on here. Someone should design a graphic or something. (how exactly does one draw a Trickle of Light?) Any artists in the house?
@brandon-miller Oh the staff thing. I was hoping no one would notice I sneaked in here. Well I don’t bite, so don’t scare the new people I haven’t met away.
Also, now that the…[Read more]

@pookiemonster A resounding yes. With my job and teaching and lots of other boring life things 🙂 writing every day is super hard. For me I tried once to write every single day. But that meant staying up super late. Every. Night. Let’s just say sleeping at the supper table is frowned upon in my home 😛
So I don’t get to write every day. Instead…[Read more]
