Another excellent response from Rose. I really do appreciate your advice and replies. 🙂
I’m going to be completely blunt, I usually just wing it
I guessed as much. xD Foreshadowing (though not necessarily good foreshadowing) seems to come spontaneously to many writers.
I am actually a huge fan of prologues. I don’t like long, drawn out p…[Read more]

Alright y’all, I want your best tips on foreshadowing. What are some of the main ways or techniques that you use? What is your overall advice? I would love to see an example from some of your writing of how you foreshadowed something.
The five main ways I found through my research how foreshadowing are:

I’ve done some more research and to summarize, she might possibly wear her hair loose. Maybe. But it would be unusual, and impractical.
This is what I had thought was the case, which means I could get away with it possibly. xD But you’re absolutely right, in this scene she would and should definitely have her hair up in some kind of braid or bun…[Read more]

Don’t worry about it too much. 🙂 I just started writing around two months ago, and the first thing I did was watch a bunch of youtube channels on writing (including Emmons, Sanderson, Merphy Napier’s “Dear Authors” series, and a smattering of other channels), and read a few books on writing (namely K. M. Weiland’s). It wasn’t…[Read more]

Thanks for the tips Rose! I was wondering how strong the character voice was, I’m glad you thought it was decent. 🙂
Wait, so you study life during the middle ages? Have you read the Frances Gies books? What sources do you use? Or were you just saying you study women’s hair styles through history? xD
In regard to women…[Read more]

Thanks for the tips Olivia! I will work on those things.
Yes, I knew the scene was description heavy, that’s what your tips were for. 🙂

Plotters like to know where they’re going, Pansters like the sense of the total unknown.
However, there is a large spectrum of area between Panster and Plotter. For instance, most pansters have some sort of small outline or synopsis to know what the book is about and who the characters are. As for plotters, the amount of which…[Read more]

Nice to meet you Miss Woodbury!
I have considered reading “How to Kill a Mockingbird” multiple times, but the descriptions just haven’t been selling me on it. xD Maybe I’ll try it sometime. Have you read “The Count of Monte Cristo”? If you haven’t, I would highly recommend it. It’s down a similar alley as Les Miserables.
So your…[Read more]

Alright, one more post of my writings. xD This scene I wrote is very heavy in descriptions, and I would appreciate any tips on how to write it in a more interesting, fluent, and character voicey manner. I would also like you hear y’all’s thoughts, opinions, and methods on writing descriptions, and feel free to post a piece of your writing where…[Read more]

Wow Rose, you are fantastic at giving spot on writing advice! I love the concept of describing individual people and things to help show the larger picture, I will try to utilize that technique more in the future. Absolutely agree with the -ing verbs tip, I’ll work on that.
I was also leaning against using direct thought. I had been using it…[Read more]

I would appreciate advice on how to improve the prose, or at least y’all’s thoughts on the writing as a whole. Advice on improving the introspection and character voice is welcome as well.</span>

That was excellent, and surprisingly close to how I was trying to portray Joelle for someone who just read a few paragraphs about her. I copied that and saved in a google doc to analyze later. 🙂
You might have told me already, but how long have you been writing Rose?
I’m delighted that you enjoyed it Gracie.…[Read more]

Greetings Olivia!
I got my degree in MO university of crazy scientists. My degree is in time travel. I walked on the moon before Neil Armstrong. I’m the reason humans aren’t mindless cyborgs. This is starting to sound rather unbelievable. xD 😉

Great response! You know how to give tips. 🙂
This paragraph encapsulates what I was trying (emphasis on trying xD) to show through Joelle:
<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>”Joelle’s gut twisted at the memory, and at the dark, cynical laugh that had floated back to her. She had not meant to cause harm to him or his friends. But it wasn’t her fau…[Read more]
