I’m with you two! 🙂 For whatever reason I haven’t grasped it either. Maybe our learning styles are different? -

How well I understood wanting to fit in and the fear of being the outsider when what I wanted most was to belong. Painful memories I was happier to forget poked at my mind, reminding me of their presences. Fear was as old as Adam’s ejection from the garden, and in all my traveling I saw it in so many places. Too many to name, on…[Read more] -

Love what you have done with it, Grace! 🙂 Reading over your shoulder was a pleasure with that sort of amusing narration and the colorful characters. The Mona Lisa herself of course, feeling inconvenienced and yet resigned, and the fun security guard, I would love working with him, yes let’s go slay dragons together by all…[Read more] -

@kate Wow, just finished it. It’s been a while since I read something that moved me that deeply. It reminded me of reading Ender’s Game. Young, innocent hero being pummeled by the world. I couldn’t put your story down. Only 52 pages and it was better that the last two novels I tried to read.

@ethryndal
Thanks for the helpful tip! 🙂 And I think your right sometimes as writers we do get stuck on the big picture, but sometimes it’s the little scenes that really grab our readers like how our characters view something.
Something I tend to do when I am stuck is brainstorming. 🙂 I go for a walk, take a notebook and think out loud, writing…[Read more] -

@r-j-karas 🙂 Yes! I pride myself on knowing my Bible fairly well, so I will look that up! 🙂 Not double checking is a curse that I am all too familiar with. Glad to be of assistance!

@kate 🙂 I think you pretty much just summed up the whole Andy Griffth show. That show was fun but it really had class. I can think of a lot of people that are still watching it.
A movie that I always found amusing was the Princess Bride. Not that I watched it for the humor, but there are some beautiful moments of comedy and irony in it. And I…[Read more]

@rosemarylouise Wow, I am impressed by your insight. I think you really hit the target when you said why parents are so underrated in things these days. It’s part of cultures war against every kind of authority. They started warring against God, then moved on to parents. Really good post. 🙂
I’m sure if I thought for a couple of days I could…[Read more]

Grace,
That is a tough question, I struggle with something similar. I start writing where I am at, what I do know about this story, and then I’m supposed to actually figure the story out. You know, the whole what is the point/message of this story. I’m more interested in the what happens/the events, but my beta reader…[Read more] -

I like this idea! 🙂 So this introvert ghost doesn’t like their portrait being famous, I can understand not enjoying being the center of attention. So this ghost is likely to try to sneak into the Louvre at night to steal their portrait back, since this is a comedy I think they should have a run in with someone. Perhaps a security guard.…[Read more] -

Simply beautiful! Wow, you really gave us a good look into the heart of this woman, made the story fresh and new to me again. 🙂 And yet you didn’t change it. It sounds like you know your Bible well. I love it! 🙂
But I don’t recognize your reference to Daniel and a man with a golden belt. Was that in one of his visions? -

“As human beings sometimes it seems we need to learn almost everything the hard way. Sometimes that’s one of the good things about admitting our own mistakes, it may teach someone else not to make that same mistake. Instead they’ll have plenty of time to make their own mistakes.” I remarked, smiling. “And thank you. I’m not much of a…[Read more] -

@rosemarylouise Everyone else had done so many comments I think there’s plenty there already, but I wanted to tell you that I did read through it. 🙂 And I loved it. Everything about writer’s block, to the sweet older brother, to the new prescriptive on writing. Pretty sure once you go through it one more time with everyone’s input it’ll be awesome. 🙂

My eyes stung a little at Clarissa’s words. In them I was reminded of the unchanging truth, that God knew our pain and that God cared. That knowledge was what had kept my heart beating all these years. There had been dark times for me as well, times when all that kept me alive was that God cared about me and had some purpose for me.…[Read more] -

“Apathy, indeed, is a terrible weapon.” I agree. “But so, I believe, is hopelessness. The world that does not believe in our Maker is lost in despair. They live their lives believing, “Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die.” They need to hear the message we are called to bring. Let us bring them the truth with love, but not watered down,…[Read more]
