“As human beings sometimes it seems we need to learn almost everything the hard way. Sometimes that’s one of the good things about admitting our own mistakes, it may teach someone else not to make that same mistake. Instead they’ll have plenty of time to make their own mistakes.” I remarked, smiling. “And thank you. I’m not much of a talker but I always appreciate knowing someone is ready to listen. And I would be interested in hearing more about your life’s journey as well. It would be nice to have a deeper conversation about all this sometime.”

I give Kate an amused smile, appreciating the humor. Joking around, I’ve learned, when done right can have a curious but healing affect on people. “Once I had a splinter to. It was terrible.” I sort of tease. I’m not very good at teasing, but I’m working on it.

“Well, I think it’s time to hear someone else’s story if they are ready to share.” I suggest to the others, inviting them deeper into the conversation.
