Wow, you guys are working on so many intriguing stories! I hope you all plan on telling the rest of us when your work is ready for viewing. 🙂
I’m working on a steampunk series about a former circus performer that becomes a detective’s assistant. I actually finished and published the first one on Amazon. Right now it looks like they’re mostly going to be long short stories. Steampunk is a new genre to me so it’s tough going. I also struggle to remember that I’m supposed to be writing for God, not merely to entertain myself which is a bad habit I’ve gotten into. However my beta reader keeps challenging me to rise above my comfort zone. 🙂 Very grateful for that reader.
Currently I’m working on the second in the series, in this one my main character is learning more about how to be a good partner to her employer. Learning skills such as good communication, forgiveness, and compromise. All these things are very difficult for her because of her employer’s rough personality. But forgiveness is something she is called to do as a Christian. Of course while she is doing this, she and her employer are trying to figure out how a ‘ghost’ is killing people.
For me, one of the reasons I end up writing stories is because of the fun character relationships of all kinds. Especially a pair of characters that are very different. So while I’m interested in writing the plot, sometimes I admit I’m a bit more interested in writing relationships and how those affect the plot. 🙂
In this one, my main character is a soft spoken christian with trust issues, while her employer has a much more abrasive personality, I’m not sure what he believes at this point of his life. I know he believes in God, but he’s not willing to surrender his life to Him due to events in his past. One of the things I find compelling about the partnership my two main characters have, is the surprising similarities in their backgrounds despite their different social classes. And how they will eventually come to compliment and yet still contrast each other. So I guess you could say the heart of my story is the relationship my characters have with other characters. 🙂
