How well I understood wanting to fit in and the fear of being the outsider when what I wanted most was to belong. Painful memories I was happier to forget poked at my mind, reminding me of their presences. Fear was as old as Adam’s ejection from the garden, and in all my traveling I saw it in so many places. Too many to name, on faces both old and young. Talking about it helped.

“Welcome Eden. I believe I speak for all of us when I say we’re happy you are here.” I say aloud with a smile. “We all have shortcomings, and flaws that we’re ashamed of, but it helps to be willing to actually admit those things. I find it very brave. Perhaps even braver than my introduction was. Well done.”
