This is very good!! It’s obviously a little hard without knowing the melody to it, but the rhythm of the words themselves is very good. It’s got good cadence.

Hmmm, well without knowing specifics I can’t give real specific advice, but I would start with what kind of emotional support are they? The way people give advice says a lot about them. For instance, I have two emotional support friends. One is very laid back and will always remind me to forgive, let go, move on, etc. all good advice. But in her personal life she can take those things too far and becomes a doormat to others, letting them get away with stuff they shouldn’t, or bottling things up inside because she doesn’t want to start conflict, yet secretly she’s bitter about it. My other friend responds more along the lines of “let’s kill them, burn the house down, to heck with them.” Not as sound advice, but it makes me feel better. In her personal life though she struggles to maintain healthy friendships because she just wants to be done with people who cross her, or has problems at work, etc. What type of emotional support your character is might give you some clues as to what flaws could naturally play out in their personal lives.
Thank you for this article! I sometimes make my characters flawed, but not to a satisfying extent. Hopefully this will prompt me to be a little more daring.
I recently read a book called The Thief, and the main character is so unique and differently flawed that he truly seems like a real person.
I also read The Girl with No Name! I love that book!
