@eden-anderson I would want to pet Ferdinand as well, because he’s cute and you just want to pet cute things, but…
😛
I think the aim was 20-30 people? I don’t know. Next time Daeus posts something and tags everyone, you can count the tags, I guess. I would say 15-20 at the moment.

@kate Thanks! And it looks great. Are you still writing, or should I take what you have and continue? I doubt I’ll be able to keep up the voice you have, but I’ll try.
@daeus-lamb No problem! 🙂

Yelp. @daeus-lamb posted this on October 1st, meaning it’s due October 14th. Don’t we usually have a draft going by the time the second week rolls around?
I can write something-that’s-not-so-good-but-it’s-still-something by tonight, then turn it out to all of you so we can jump into the editing process.
Or, if someone is reading this who wants…[Read more]

@eden-anderson Hi there! (Hi Ferdinand!) I don’t want to bombard you with questions, but just know that you’re welcome here — don’t feel like you’re intruding. Just find a forum to put forth your thoughts. 🙂
I love the Lord of the Rings, too! It’s great that your character is based (if only partially) off Aragorn.
The picture prompt contest is…[Read more]

@msqueen8 Yeah, I think what’s hindering me is that my story could head in a few different directions if I don’t figure out the point of it, in concrete terms. I’ll definitely start by working my way back… it seems to be the easiest thing for me to do at the point. Thanks!
@noahlitle I know what my theme is because I know what my climax is, and…[Read more]

@kate Oh my goodness… definitely, definitely the aspiring artist. xD
The idea of an actual thief also came to mind. The ghost can scold him/her for all it’s worth.

Hi everyone!
So right now I’m brainstorming/outlining for my WIP, and in short, I know where I’m going to end, I’ve figured out my beginning, but it’s a little hard for me to continue plot-brainstorming. Maybe it’s because it’s a lot of work, but I’m hesitating to try to create a plot line from the first plot point and getting it to end where I…[Read more]

@daeus-lamb *runs in* AAAHH I hope this isn’t too late. I’ve written 1,646 words this week, on a short story, and I think it helped me put aside agonizing over the wording and just let the words flow, so that was great.

@sesi Going to pop on here really quickly to give you this link:Â http://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/
Look through the drop-down tabs to find different kinds of name generators. There are many, many ideas for names here that sometimes it seems endless, so you’ll have to try several to find the kind of names that you’re looking for.

@rosemarylouise Ooh, I should go check that story out. 😉
@daeus-lamb Thanks, and I understand what you’re saying. The thing about my religious system is that there are people that are supposed to represent Christians, and basically the story is going to be written with them as the good guys (like the protagonist learns from them and changes her…[Read more]

@daeus-lamb I haven’t previously heard of this term, but now that I see it, it makes sense 🙂 Thanks for sharing this with us!
Could this also be termed “outlook”, like a character’s outlook on their life and circumstances, but one that may be changing?

@daeus-lamb Is this like the last time, when you have to write 1,000+ words to qualify?

I’m currently working on a novel idea that I want to take through NaNoWriMo. I’m already brainstorming and sort of outlining, and hope to finish the first draft by end of December (goal: 60k words). This is not my first novel premise ever, but it is one that I am taking the most seriously and actually hope to bring to completion (rather than…[Read more]

I gasp. Melkor. “I feared it might be so.” My teeth dig into my lip when I realize that I’ve actually broken the silence, but someone — is her name Chalice? — nods at me to continue, and I speak haltingly. “Melkor’s reputation has spread to even distant lands. They were mostly rumors, but my fellow believers and I feared the worst, so when I…[Read more]

Why does this place have to be so solemn? It’s really getting on my nerves.Â
I slide into the room and catch a flicker of movement as someone straightens themselves in their chair. That’s all I can really see here — a dim candle flickering upon a table with many chairs around it. Maybe there are intricate patterns lining the dark hue of the…[Read more]

@noah-litle YAYYY 😀 😀
Thanks for going through all the comments. It must’ve taken a lot of time and deliberation to make so many decisions, especially with so many people chipping in.

@daeus-lamb Yes, I love The Book Thief! Between you and @kate, I think I see this concept better now.
@noah-litle As if you haven’t received enough encouragement on the fishbowl idea yet, but go for it! I can’t wait to see how it turns out and what we’ll turn it into.

Grace replied to the topic Backstory in the forum Announcements 7 years, 7 months ago
I have started to realize recently that backstory makes the character so much deeper and makes the story more meaningful. Now this character isn’t just in the present, they have a past, and it affects them deeply as they move into the future.
One thing we have to watch out for, though, is to make this cause-and-effect tool deep and genuine and…[Read more]
