@kate Oooo. I can relate to ya, Kate. Though I feel like I take myself seriously as a writer, I hate talking about it to non-writerly people. I don’t think this is necessary because they don’t take writing seriously as a ministry, but because I feel they won’t take storytelling seriously in general. I have this little nagging feeling that tells…[Read more]

🙂 Thanks for posting this, it’s encouraging to be reminded that we all struggle with something as writers. I’ve found that some of the most difficult battles are the spiritual internal ones that nobody sees. Because those are the ones where I can hide what I am feeling and nobody but God will know. But you are right, as Christians we are…[Read more]

@kate Hey, Lord willing, your writing will impact a lot of lives. Sure thing.
For my part, I struggle most with delays and uncertainty. Delays, because they always make me feel like a failure for a while, and uncertainty because being blind to my own work is humbling and Daeuses don’t humble as easily as they should. 🙁
With delays, the most…[Read more]

Ya, that is interesting.
Keep pursuing that freedom. 🙂 God certainly cares. And He has a specific plan for you and your writing. He’s got it all laid out for you to discover.

Greetings folks,
Today we’ve got a well-needed post from Jess about staying alive and being fruitful. Because all writers are monomaniacs and all monomaniacs are unhealthy.
Stay healthy, people. More info below.

Any better?
The hideous God of Manna has taken away the soul of Mortristan’s father. Now, it is Mortristan’s doom to find what his father never could: something worth living for.
But when Mortristan is forced to hunt an intruder in the God of Manna’s paradise-city, he learns just how enslaved he…[Read more]

@kate @brandon-miller Thanks, guys!
Take 2.
Mortristan was startled by his father’s death.
Trapped in a deceptive utopia, the world order he has always known begins to haunt him. Life, food, and safety depend on unthinkable sacrifices to the God of Manna, and it doesn’t stop him from taking their souls in the end. A doom inherited from his f…[Read more]

Ooh! This is going to be so good! I can feel it…😀
Are we going for dramatic or realistic? Because I think in real life, the majority of conversions arn’t super dramatic. (I’m not saying there arn’t dramatic conversions, because there are…everyone’s experience is different. I’m just saying the majority probably aren’t.) We confess our sin, a…[Read more]

Awesome ideas, and that’s a good point about conversions! They never happen all at once. I like your idea about the character already having a sort of relationship with God and just needed to take the next step and make that commitment to God. It makes me think of this one character in a old movie that was always talking to God, but never l…[Read more] -

@kate Four years.
@msqueen8 @literatureforthelight @r-m-archer. Right, I should have made that clear from the start. 😛
I think a scene of 1,500 words would be ideal. Preferably, it would represent an average scene of yours and it shouldn’t require a ton of context for me to understand. My POV preference would be deep/limited third, followed by…[Read more]

We talk a lot about poorly done conversion scenes. But believe it or not, it’s possible to do well.
That’s what our new prompt war is all about! Our goal is to write a believable conversion scene. 😀
I think this is going to prompt some great discussion, push us, and be a lot of fun.
I can’t wait to get started.

Hey guys!
I’m working on a synopsis for a novelette of mine and I’m looking for some critique. The title is God of Manna and it’s a symbolic, somewhat dystopian (or utopian, depending on how you look at it) fairytale.
Mortristan was startled by his father’s death.
As life under the God of Manna’s reign grows bleaker and bleaker, he resolves to r…[Read more] -
