Hey, guys! What’d I miss? *checks page* Oh, yikes, I’m late in the game. Seems we all are. When do we need to have this thing written? Doesn’t look like we’ve even decided on a final storyline! We might need some Penrose intervention, here.
If I may provide an example of…[Read more]

We probably ought to decide on something in the next day or two so we can move towards writing a draft. What options are you all leaning towards?
I think we should do a young child’s conversion because that’s the option we’ve talked about the most.

Ah, nuts. Well. I’ll just have to work around that. XD If you need any readers, let me know! I’m hoping to join a guild and I do already have a list of other stories I need to read first, but I can add you to the queue. 😉 What are your stories about?
Wow, I recognized almost none of those names! I need to get with it! Thanks for…[Read more]

Great points! Especially about pointing out the good things. When people tell us what we’ve done well, we can learn how to bring out our strong points and eventually make our writing more unique. Plus, it gives us confidence to reach for something higher. When my friend flailed over my worldbuilding, I realized how much further I could go with it,…[Read more]

Hey, Jess! It’s great to meet you! I have heard a lot of great things about Kingdom Pen and always wanted to get more involved. ;-D I would love to hear more about your stories. Do you have them up somewhere online? Also, I know what you mean, blue is so calming. If I had to be stuck with one color for a week, it’d probably be blue or green.…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose I think the thing I agree with the most in here is pointing out what was done well. Knowing that you’ve done well can be super encouraging, and also it’s fun to squeal over writing. 😆 I’ve had the privilege to read one writer’s story as an alpha reader, and she’s so amazing as a writer that I ended up just fangirling the majority of…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose Neat post. (Thanks Daeus! :))
The main thing I’ve learned about beta reading is to make sure I have time before agreeing to help, especially here at Story Embers. I’m head of a small private group of 15 writers and so they’re my top priority, and I’ve final made a rule that I just don’t have the time to beta read anything here,…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose has a great point about the stakes. (And… I thought it was a conversation scene the first time I read it too. xD)
Since several of us have the experience of being saved as children, what if we did the conversion of a young child (5 or 6 years old?) through their POV? The prompt calls for a believable conversion, and since we have…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose @evelyn @julia @ariella-newheart @rebecca-w @steward-of-the-pen @trufflehunter
Well, here are some options, I guess.
- A gentle (or very not gentle!) character whose heart is touched by God
- A stubborn character that watches someone martyred for their faith and wants to have the same humility & strength as them.
- A proud character…

@j-a-penrose That’s more of what I pictured beta reading as.

@j-a-penrose A lot of good points there, but interestingly I had the same definitions as you, not Daeus. *shrugs* 🙂

@j-a-penrose This is a great subject to talk about! Alpha and beta readers are SO important to the writing process. Having fresh eyes on characters, a plot, and backstories you’ve thought of and rewritten a million times is super helpful. I currently have one friend who is reading my first drafts for me, so that I can know if a) this makes sense…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose *gives you coffee* *hopes you like coffee because there’s controversy on that subject* I totally relate; I guess we’ll have to push onward together 😛
Woo-wie! This is a toughie! I’ve never written this sort of thing before. We should make it very emotional. Like, life or death maybe? My immediate thoughts are that we need to give…[Read more]

As, @evelyn said, this is going to be hard. BUT! I’m sure we can do it! *takes a cup of tea and a cookie from Evelyn.*
I grew up in a Christian home, and I was saved when I was seven or six, so I don’t really remember a whole lot. All I remember is knowing that God said that I needed to get saved, and so, I prayed and asked God to…[Read more]

Hi!
Someone I know would argue about the faith with the man she was dating. He eventually convinced her of the truth. She became a member of the church soon after they were married. They’ve been married a long time and have four children now, but whenever I see them together they seem to be as deeply in love as when they first…[Read more]
