@anne_the_noob14 As long as criticism is constructive, it is accepted here! (Also, you may well like this little thread here.)
Feel free to do any of the lessons whenever. I’m trying to get back on top of things at the moment, and seem to be getting there, so I’ll be giving feedback more regularly.

@sarah-vdh Oooh, interesting. I kinda want to know more about this one…
Really well done with the dialogue. Have sentences that you know the ending of is really cool, because it shows that they’ve been dwelling on it. That it hurts. And the “blaming” inanimate objects is also lots of fun. Very real too.
Tip for this bit would be to work on…[Read more]

@julia Nice! I love how you’ve used a lot more emotive language in the second one. That really does help build the tension and make the reader want the protagonist to win.
My main point would be to try and show a bit more fear, and the fatigue. Describe little details to make it clear that he can’t win, and that could cost him his life.
But…[Read more]

Also, we generally do some brainstorming and discussing before writing anything on the doc. But could be stellar if you shared some of the ideas you were going with from what you put up there anyway? @obrian-of-the-surface-world

@e-jo3 Sweet! Can you give a basic rundown of the concepts in Inception?
@julia Yes! That is so cool. I love all of K.M.Weiland’s things. So much. When I’m in doubt, that tends to be where I go. *nods* I approve.
@steward-of-the-pen Some great starting ideas! (And Daeus is judging this one.)
@calebonline First of all, welcome to Parimi Alca! I…[Read more]

Parimis to attention!
I know we haven’t gotten the results back from our NaNo word war yet, but the Prompt War of December has arrived!
Now, some of your are new to this, and that is okay! It’s fairly simple, and you’ll soon work it out.
1. We brainstorm our ideas regarding the prompt through this thread. Here is where we will discuss…[Read more]

@write-owl Stellar! It’s our goal to make you comfortable.
(And I approve of your book choice. I happen to be an elf who speaks Quenya, and our guild name happens to be in Quenya, soooo…)

Again, this is a recap lesson to help you keep on improving your skills in Pacing and Suspense!
The goal today is to write a really slow, suspenseless snippet, then one that is full of suspense. BONUS POINTS if they are the same scene. Not that there are points, but that will help give you the right idea.
As always, keep it fairly short. I’m…[Read more]

@steward-of-the-pen *replies late* Ooooh, nice!
Ah yes. The emblems stay. They were all made by someone else to keep them kinda uniform. *nodnod*
Really well done! I love the sound of it a lot. You should read the Song Keeper Chronicles by Gillian Bronte-Adams. (I feel like I’ve told you this…)

@jade That’s so cool! I really love how you can tell he’s jotting it down as he goes. I can almost imagine he’s running while writing it, desperately hoping it won’t be needed. Really well done!
I’m kinda curious now. Are you writing the whole book in journal form? Because that’s the most realistic journal-story I have ever seen. *nods* Impressive!

@julia Nice! I really love how you’ve done this one.
Main tip would be to add some variation. Have some longer paragraphs tossed in there as well to make it more dramatic when we get the short, choppy ones.

Great to meet you @pursuewisdom!
Looks like you were put in the guild for a reason! Most of us here write speculative fiction, so we certainly have some common ground.
Also, timezones are not an issue. 😀 I am an Aussie, so we are kinda used to just operating by whatever time people go by.
