For those who don’t know, we are now starting to work together to post the annual theme discussion, and this time around, it’s on the exciting art of the Writing Life. This course/section won’t be super practical for right now, but maybe we can be using it later, and being sure to build up and appreciate the amazing relationships with other…[Read more]

It’s been forever since I’ve said anything. And agh I am so sorry.
This time, I was aware that I wouldn’t be about. However, in the hectic mess of life, I had assumed I had asked someone to step in until things at this end were sorted out. So, either I totally forgot to do that, or no one actually took it on and it got forever lost in the…[Read more]

@brandon-miller Well, looks like I wasn’t the only one who had remembered.
But yes, starting writing would be really good!
The concept of looking a death through a different lense would be really cool. That would allow for a non-cliche idea. The main thing to be careful of, though, is that it doesn’t fall into bitter-sweet.

Hey guys! I’m stepping in for Faith at the moment (apparently no one else has??) and your ideas are sounding stellar!
Word Count is 2500 words, and also, bitter-sweet endings do not count. (Daeus informed us recently)
Tag me if you have any questions, and I’ll probably give random bits of feedback. Basically, I will try being Faith for the time…[Read more]

@silverclaw-bonnetfollyI would be VERY careful with the idea of a fairytale. It really is seriously likely to fall under cliché too easily.

J.A.Penrose started the topic Characters | Lesson 4 : The Other Side in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 4 months ago
A lot of the time, characters are written so that they are 100% good or bad. The protagonist is perfect, good looking, and maybe he has mild claustrophobia as a weakness. The villain is evil, kills puppies and shoots up old ladies in his spare time, and maybe every now and then he tortures someone who spilt his coffee instead of killing them.

Ahhh, yes. That is one of the things I’ve been planning on dealing with over this time. Also, the new changes we’re making should help with this as well.
But yes. Whole guild tagging should not be happening unless you have direct permission from me.

J.A.Penrose started the topic Characters | Lesson 3 : The Motive in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 5 months ago
The motive of your character is important. The motive is what drives your character forward, and makes every scene feel strong and meaningful. The character’s motive is what brings about the theme, and what pushes the plot along. Your plot is driven by your character’s motive. Pretty much, the first thing I wanted to talk about is going back to the very basics of what a…[Read more]
