Faith Blum started the topic Topic #29: The Third Act in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 2 months ago
In the third act of the book, the hero faces his or her inner demons and completes their character arc while in final conflict with the antagonistic force. This is where it all comes together.
Third Plot Point
Before all of that can happen, though, your MC must reach their low point. This is where what he wants most will be almost within his grasp. Only to have it all dashed away. Because authors are evil like that. 😉
As I mentioned at the beginning, the MCs character arc will be fulfilled. All the previous actions and reactions lead him here to face every weakness and mistake. This is where he must let himself be broken and rise with new wisdom and strength.
Our example from Pride and Prejudice is when Lydia elopes with Wickham and Lizzy fears she has lost Darcy’s love that she suddenly realizes she wants.
I have also decided to do these each week for two more weeks after today because we are almost done and some changes may be taking place soon. So next week we will talk about the Climax and the Resolution. Then I’ll talk about a few more tips about endings the week after that.
In the meantime, how are you having your MC fulfill their character arc?
