StorySeeker started the topic Deciding upon a POV in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 weeks, 5 days ago
So I have this story and there are several things related to this story that I’m debating. But for now, I just want to focus on my questions about the point of view. Some of these questions are nuanced to my situation and others are just general questions about POV.
How do you know how many points of view to tell the story? You obviously need at…[Read more]

Okay, so I have had this question for a really long time now.
Is it okay for white writers to write a story through the eyes of a black character?
I’m asking this because in one of my books I have a black main character. My reasoning for making my character black has less to do color diversity, and more to do with the plain and simple fact that…[Read more]

Okay, so I am kinda near the beginning of my book and we are encroaching on the inciting incident. I am three chapters in. Why is it taking so long? I really don’t know. The original sketches for how many chapters lead up to the inciting incident were…one. Why? Just why?! *long sigh* Yeah I soon realized that some of the characters needed more…[Read more]

The title is pretty self-explanatory. Basically, I am having a severe hankering for superhero novels…good superhero novels. Not a comic book, a novel. And clean! (those are so hard to find nowadays)
Does anyone know any good clean superhero novels I can read?
p.s. I already own (and reread well over three times in the past year) the Failstate…[Read more]

Hey! I know I don’t go on here often, but I’d just like to real quick ask prayer for my sister. I won’t go into all the details, but my sister is just in an area where she needs to hear God’s voice, or just feel His presence. I don’t want advice, and frankly neither does my sister, all I ask for is prayer.
p.s. how do you delete topics, I…[Read more]

I’d love to have alpha readers, beta readers ( or just a critique group in general ) to help go over my work. But… well I was able to find a story coaching thingy, that would basically help critique my novel, but the thing is they critique it /after/ I’ve written the novel. I need help with during. And while there are people in my life ( outside…[Read more]

Lord of the Rings, or Narnia. The Dragon Keeper Chronicles are also good- sorry just spouting out random suggestions. ( *whispers* we should totally do Dawn of Wonder by Jonathan Renshaw, it’s sooo good )

I have one couple in my story that I’m trying to make more realistic. And for the scene I’m working on right now, I have my MC talking with her mom ( though more like the mom is doing most of the talking ). Basically the mom is just trying to help remind the MC that the said Mom will always be there for her, and all the good mom…[Read more]

I was working on my story when I discovered the mentor needed to come into the story sooner, then I found that he came in to soon and needed to be moved back. This led to the question of ‘when would be the best time to introduce the Mentor?’ Or is any time ok?

So real quick, how do you write a sappy scene without making them…well… sappy. I don’t want a hallmark ( sorry hallmark fans ), so how do you make scenes with real emotion without making it sound cheesy. Any tips? Or advice in general?
