@sarah-inkdragon It took me a while to find my tag in your post XD
@hope-ann What an interesting topic. I’m assuming that by technology you mean like inventions and things. Since I know nothing about the past of my fantasy world (Well, I know nothing until the Crown Prince gets banished) I can’t really say how it has evolved.
In my book it’s…[Read more]

@sarah-inkdragon Yeah, the ‘we’re all human’ part is something that I’d like to show in my writing, too. The main characters are very far from perfect, and the villains are honestly good at times.
Also have you noticed that whenever you ask someone who their favorite character is from some popular book and they usually always say the main…[Read more]

@karthmin Yes, high fantasy can be done well. J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings is the epitome of high fantasy, I think. I hope that you will be different. Because it would be a pleasure in reading high fantasy that I can enjoy again.

@karthmin 1. Clarity. The story takes a moment to get into, but the reader is able to catch on quickly. It seems like you spent a lot of time world building; it sounds fascinating.
2. Melodrama. I haven’t really encountered melodrama much, so I’m not really sure what it’s like, but I think your story’s fine.
3. The ratio between dialogue and…[Read more]

Gah I typed this all out and then I edited it and now it’s gone and it was really long too….*cries*
so, yeah, I don’t like high fantasy because it’s cliched, and elves and dwarves and goblins in a Medieval setting gets really tiring after a while…which is why I include a lot of modern clothing and conveniences in my fantasy…[Read more]

@karthmin Thank you for taking the time to read and critique my writing. I’m glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for pointing out what needs to be fixed. I’ll do my best to improve my writing based on your pointers. To clear things up a bit, the woman is Death. Then again, that might not clear up anything at all. XD

I’ve never read Paolini but we did have a guy duct taped to a tree read us the first chapter of Inheritance. It’s on my to-read list but I don’t think I’ll attempt it because I can’t stand high fantasy.

Hey everyone,
Below is my critique piece for September. A short story of mine for a contest a while ago. I know there’s a lot of telling, but I wanted to stay kind of detached for this one. I would like critique on:
-Emotion. What does this piece make you feel?
-Clarity. How clear is the story? Can you get it? What do you think…[Read more]

Why, yes it is. I recently started listening to Owl city, and I found it very relaxing.
-
@devastate-lasting Cool! I started listening to them (him?) too (partially from pestering from a friend) and I’ve really liked them (him?) so far.
-
It’s a him. His name is Adam Young.
-
Ok. 😅 I should probably know more about him if I listen to him… XD

Wow, I liked that a lot. Your main character was so intriguing, and that last scene…*sniffs* Very well done.

Hmm…it’s been a while since I’ve read the Hobbit, and to be honest, I barely remember any of it. I had a really hard time reading it for two reasons: a) My copy was falling apart completely, and it was really hard to hold without having the pages slip everywhere and b) It was filled with a lot of really terrible pictures of everybody and it was…[Read more]
