@noodle-mum My welcome comes a bit late, but I welcome you to New Wessex all the same! It’s a pleasure to meet you! 😀
Also, somehow when I was going through things earlier, I managed to miss your last post! I think that the TGA could create some really interesting dynamics! A slightly ironic element might be introduced if they end up being a…[Read more]

Did someone say MYSTERY??? *cackles deviously*
THIS IS MY THING PEOPLE. It was mysteries that first got me into writing and I still LOVE a good mystery. Or forensics book. Yeah, this stuff is all awesome!I love the ideas I see so far! Here’s a random plot idea: the MC has amnesia (genuinely), and initially the investigator thinks that the MC is…[Read more]

@daeus-lamb I agree with @ethryndal and @cassandraia. Honestly, reading over your post, I was thinking “Don’t we pretty much already do that?”
I think that there could definitely be some other activities though– nothing too grand. Maybe a semi-monthly “get together” in each guild where we can just check up on each other and talk about life,…[Read more]

The only other thing that I would add for now is that we need to make sure that we do place emphasis on the challenge: bringing out the beauty of something ordinary in the middle of a very dramatic scene.
I think we’re well on our way to doing just that. It just shouldn’t be an exotic fish or a priceless whatever. 😉 It needs to be ordinary, at…[Read more]

@cassandraia Exactly. Maybe we could even do a type of parallel story, but twist it so that she’s the Jezebel, and in thinking her god was displeased by not answering the pleas of the priests, she sought to give him the ultimate sacrifice- herself. But then she sees the beautiful thing, whatever it is, and… chooses life? Realizes that she…[Read more]

I think this is all wonderful.
To do some brainstorming, I think that first person will be the easiest by far. If we did it from third person, it would be difficult to get as close to the raw emotion and pain of it all. It could technically be done, but I think first person would be much more…[Read more]

Oh, it’s supposed to be dramatic, not chaotic. Oops. 😛
Well… there’s a couple of ideas there anyway. XD

Between work and some crazy life stuff, my presence will be very hit and miss (though that’s sadly nothing new), but the first thought that came to my mind was a battlefield, so I agree we shouldn’t go with that. It seems too easy- no, not easy. Cliche. There will probably be one or two entries with battlefield scenes.
However, I did have another…[Read more]

Corissa replied to the topic What would a dorm full of guys look like? in the forum General Writing Discussions 6 years, 9 months ago
@ericawordsmith I only have two younger brothers, but I don’t have any sisters, so I’ve grown up mostly around guys except for a half-dozen or so close girl friends at church. 😉 In general, my brothers are messy, though one is definitely tidier than the other.
Also, I worked at the Indiana State Fair last summer, and even though the guys and…[Read more]

I have a couple of scenes and poems I’ve been wanting to write (and I’m done with the newspaper for the semester), so maybe I’ll actually be able to contribute this time. 🙂

@daeus-lamb For once, I can actually say yes. 😀 I just finished my last big college project for this semester (I still have finals left, but they’re a week away and I’ve already been doing a lot of reviewing so it should be fine). If you send it to me, I will post a review by the end of tomorrow (barring unforeseen tragedies or loss of…[Read more]

@literatureforthelight I’m actually technically still in high school taking dual credit courses, but I plan to double major in Business and English- so this will probably end up being an elective. 🙂 I find language absolutely fascinating though, and this class has been amazing!!!

@daeus-lamb I literally just studied this in my language class last week, so reading your article was very enjoyable! 😀
I’d say it’s fine the way it is, but just FYI, 3 of your categories do have more specific linguistic names, if you want to use them:
“Original application of prefixes or suffixes onto words”- this is called derivation, and you…[Read more]

Corissa replied to the topic A happy ending 🙂 in the forum Announcements 7 years ago
Whoa, I love this prompt. It could go so many different ways… honestly, the first thing that popped in my head (though I have no idea why) is a story about a little(ish) boy who’s sitting inside a safe room while the world is ending outside but he’s happy because he has an ice cream cone. XD
I agree with @eden-anderson though; I find it a…[Read more]

I settle onto the warm stones and grin. “Oh, surviving.” Then I sigh and glance down at the floor. “Honestly, I kind of feel trapped too, though not so much in a boring cycle as in a trap of never-ending responsibilities and not knowing when to say no to stuff. I just don’t know if I’ll be able to keep doing everything I want to do and e…[Read more]

I pause as I walk down the hallway when I hear the quiet echoes of two voices in a conversation. I hesitate, listening, and then suddenly blush as I remember that it isn’t polite to eavesdrop. I’m torn between joining Kate and Archer or moving on to search for the others, but then a brief lull in the conversation makes my decision and I enter t…[Read more]

Love this so much!!! It hurts just as much and is just as powerful as before the revisions. It has been through the fire, and the sharpened blade cuts the deeper for it. *sniffles*
