  • Hey,

    I’m back!

You guys had an eventful week while I was gone, let me go ahead and hit up some of the highlights.

First off, GUYS WE WON A GUILD WAR!!!  I saw the numbers.  It was not close.  You guys ROCKED it.  WAY TOO GO.  I wish I could come give you all high-fives or something bc wow I am proud.  Nice work.

Our (obvious) MVP was @Jane-Maree, who wrote like… a /lot/ of words.  Unfortunately, (fortunately?) she probably won’t be able to see this.  Why?  She has left us.  :'( (It’s actually good news.  SE and the guilds are growing so quickly that we’re about to be pulling guildmasters out of thin air!)  But yes, she left us to go be a guild master and all that fan-fare.  (Also, that makes her a rival now, so I’m done talking her up. 😛 )  But basically she’s gone so we will have to step up our game if we want to be repeat word war winners.

Also, I guess I have a throne room now?  With a squirrel?  Cool cool.

Finally, HEY WE HAVE A NEW GUILDING!  Everybody please welcome @corkybookworm!  She’s pretty cool (I think I haven’t met her much yet) but y’all give her a warm proper Rillumen welcome, okay?

    OKAY, THIS WEEK’S ACTIVITY:

We’ve been getting our feet wet with some fun activities the last four weeks, but I really want to use the activities to get you writing, not just to keep you busy.  So, this week it gets real.

The plan is pretty simple.  We’ve been talking about finding details that paint a picture in the reader’s mind.  So now… we put it to practice.  Everybody head over to the critique board and pick someone’s excerpt.  (Now would be a good time to post a new excerpt, just saying.)  Read through the excerpt paying close attention to the setting.  Where do you have a clear picture of the scene?  What details really work?  Where are things unclear or just not vivid?  Share your thoughts with the author, and then come back and post whose excerpt you critiqued.  Try and spread out.  It would be great if we could cover everybody’s piece.

    See y’all over there!
