@gabriellepollack I haven’t decided for certain yet. I think I’ll do Rachel Starr Thomson’s Seventh World trilogy, which in my opinion isn’t as well-known as it deserves to be.

I’ve written a comprehensive review expressing my opinions on both the manga and the anime, if you’d like more details.

My goal is to figure out the ending of my current WIP. The outline I have so far goes up to a point at the climax where the protagonist is caught in a catch-22 situation, and I can’t figure out how she’s going to get out of it.

Toklaham Veruzia replied to the topic Well-done dystopian novels…where can I find 'em? in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 12 months ago
@kayla-joy The author did write a sequel to the Giver, sort of. It’s called Gathering Blue and is set in the same dystopian world, but focuses on entirely different characters. There are a total of four books in the series and the last two tie into to the first one better.

Is anyone here familiar with A Silent Voice, either the original manga or the anime based on it? I read all seven volumes of the manga and loved it, and just recently, after a series of challenges, was able to watch the film. It hasn’t been released in America yet so I had a DVD shipped all the way from Britain.

@snapper I finished the book and suggested several typos to fix. I really enjoyed Ike’s character arc.

Toklaham Veruzia replied to the topic Why is Emotion Important? in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 8 years ago
The stories that make the greatest emotional impact on me are the ones that leave some questions at the end. My favorite examples include The Warden and the Wolf King (the only book that’s ever made me cry), A Silent Voice, and A Time to Speak (before I realized that there were actually going to be three books in the series).

The ending of A Time to Speak is so good I think the third book never should have been written. Personally, I think A Time to Speak resolves the series in a much more… intriguing manner. If I ever give the Out of Time series to my kids, I’m going to rip out the last page of book 2 and tell them it’s the last book. 🙂

I’ve finished the first draft of my story, The Dust Smugglers. Would anybody be interested in reading it and critiquing it? The length is about 50,000 words. I’m not sure whether to call it a novel or a novella.
Premise Statement: A man ekes out an unscrupulous living stealing magic sand from well beneath a vampire-infested desert.
Any advice is welcome.

I’m busy finishing up the year of schoolwork right now so I won’t set any concrete goals until summer actually starts for me. But I’d like to finish the outline and start the first draft of my next planned novel, The Lore of Yore. However due to some timeline issues I may start outlining it only to realize that I have to write another book set i…[Read more]

1. I usually write high fantasy, which I think of as fantasy stories set in worlds completely unrelated to this universe.
2. I just finished the first draft of The Dust Smugglers, which is about a man who steals magic sand from wells buried under a vampire-infested desert. His adopted daughter is kidnapped by vampires, and he has to go on a…[Read more]
