‘kay, I haven’t read all the recent posts here, but I’m glad this conversation got started again! I especially appreciate @this-is-not-an-alien ‘s thoughts on LGBTQA. I think I heard that the APA used to classify homosexuality as a mental illness or disorder, but I’ve never heard anyone talk about it like you (Cathy) before. You seem to have…[Read more]

My wife came from a Communist country, so we know firsthand where that pernicious philosophy leads
My family too fled a Communist nation, all they had was a fake telegram to get them over the border. It’s only by the grace of God that they succeeded, otherwise I would have never existed. My story makes a jab at…[Read more]

Thank you for your comments, Kimmi. I agree. These are tough topics and should be approached with much prayer, but if the Lord is drawing a Christian writer, anchored in the Word and an active and daily personal relationship pursuit of Jesus one might consider the words of the Lord through the…[Read more]

*reads over first post/what started the thread*
Very interesting.
But what about the more difficult themes? Topics like any or all of LGBTQA. Human rights. Human trafficking. Race relations. Other religions (Muslim, Hindu, etc).
Thoughts on why these topics are not written about as much? (So far as fiction goes.)
Maybe writers feel these topics…[Read more]

That character is terrifying! Great job!
Lemme see, right now there are: My character, Chantara (female), an assassin, who switches between false personas every few seconds.
@skylarynn ‘s characters: Þorunn (female) a shieldmaiden with serious anger issues, and Karayan (male) a feline vampire whose sole purpose i…[Read more]

Amen, my sister.
Now, I’m off to the Villain Castle to introduce one of my characters there. It is with a firm grip on God’s Truth and Light that I can walk into the darkness and not be overcome by the fearsome things that await missteps there.
But it is not might that prevails there in the shadow…
It is the simple fact…[Read more]

Apologies for the absence…
“No,” Jericho said as Alessio volunteered to sacrifice himself. “No, wait a moment.”
Brendin had sat down on the floor with his back against one of the beds. “Jericho,” he said softly in Kithin. “There is a way we can do this without losing anyone.”
She turned to him, startled. “You speak as one of the Eya…[Read more]

So, I’ll just add one of my villains here too. I really don’t know how many are present. Please let me know if there are already the 10 maximum, presently lurking here.
This character can pretty much speak for itself.
Description:
It is about 12 feet tall (3.65 meters). Large woolly thighs, with a b…[Read more]

“If we start arguing over who’s the weakest member we’ll become too divided to survive even if we make it through this. We don’t have enough time to argue this.” Alessio’s voice was defiant, but scared. “Let me get just one thing right, and finish this.”
Nithel had looked back at his friend, forehead wrinkling. Pain is in his eyes, heartach…[Read more]

Hey, sorry for the prolonged absence. The laptop I’d been using to write on here wasn’t mine, and I couldn’t get my own one for a while after I returned it. I didn’t use my phone because I have trouble typing on it, and my typewriter doesn’t get an internet connection 🙂 .

Hey all, sorry for the absence. Kinda no longer had a computer and just got a new one yesterday.
Þorunn sensed a presence behind her, felt the faint breath at the back of her neck. She was prepared when a hand clamped over her mouth and a knife came to her throat.
Immediately Þorunn grabbed the arm wielding the dagger and jerked it away fro…[Read more] -

Hi Cathy,
I did in fact read all of your post. You are very astute in your observations and study and are well researched. I do agree there is a medical aspect to it, and that even the brain’s surface reshapes according to our propensities, habit, and behavioral choices.
The most baseline point is all humankind is born…[Read more]

Cool question! I think it comes down to trusting your audience to be intelligent. (Which is harder than it sounds. XD)
It’s basically inevitable if you’re writing anything other than a high-school drama contemporary novel that your characters do things that you would not recommend to your audience.
In my current fantasy WIP, I…[Read more]

Hi Cathy,
Thank you for your kind words.
I do have a particular loathing for Marx. His deceptive philosophy has led to extreme poverty and the slaughter of literally millions. Seeing it seducing our youth culture and indoctrinate college students greatly alarms me.
