Oh my goodness! My family and I are reading <i>The Wednesday Wars</i> right now. That is the only Gary D. Schmidt book I have read but it is very good. I also like <i>The Phantom Tollbooth</i> by Norton Juster. Have you read it?

I’d argue that any book has a message, whether the author necessarily intended it or not, but it’s not always a good or true one–and I assume that’s what you’re looking for.
