Daniel fell behind the others, following them down the hall. He was somewhat confused, but decided to let that rest. He didn’t want to draw attention to himself any more than he already had.

Daniel blinked, surprise lighting in his eyes. There wasn’t any hatred in their eyes, contempt in their voices. It shouldn’t have been such a shock, perhaps in this other world, there were no Jews. Or at least no one hated them like they did in his world. “Lead on,” he said quietly, rubbing his scar.

“Why is Ash hot?” Matz asked. “Is it that way throughout your entire world?” He sat back, watching the others take care of the fire. His dark green eyes flickered as a sound howled over the wind. “What was that?” he tilted his head.
