Okay, all of this sounds absolutely stellar. Like, really guys. Good job. I’m impressed.
NOTE: @steward-of-the-pen is close, there is a 2500 word limit. Jane only has so much time to go through all of them.
*sits back to think*
- Plotline sounds brilliant, unique, and generally awesome.
- The character sounds stellar.

“Write any story you choose with the most original and creative prose that you can.”
THE TIME HAS COME PARIMIS.
War has been declared among the guild’s of Story Embers, and Parimi Alca is in terrible danger.
The competition will be tough. Avensbeck has won all of the prompt wars so far, and if we aren’t careful, they will dominate again. Also, t…[Read more]

@rebecca-w Welcome aboard! Funny you mention the oceans, cause I’ve been mulling over what the equivalent of the kraken might look like, and here’s what I’ve come up with. I submit for general consideration and evaluation, our local kraken:
Name: Malum (Name pending- I’m, uh, not good with names guys, so if anyone has a good one by all means fire…[Read more]

This question was raised as an aside by @consciousdreamer a few days back, and I figured it could be good to spend one of our Monday lessons on it.
All too often, you can be reading a book and then have to put it down and rub your eyes because the writer just had their entire cast described down to every freckle in one chapter. You have all of…[Read more]

Can I just say guys, you are doing awesomely here. O-o
I think I may spend all of tomorrow afternoon just going through these and collaborating some more things together and then responding to this stellar thread.
Also, I’m thinking that we may end up using some of our world building to have our own mini Parimi Alca tournaments? As in,…[Read more]

Yeeeup! Pretty much what @sarah-vdh said!
I’d also stress that it depends on the type of series. Books such as the Chronicles of Narnia can wrap up fairly well, only very faintly following the structure over the series. Books such as Lord of the Rings will be less inclined to wrap up neatly.
They are more like case of one continuous…[Read more]

Well Parimis, it is time to say goodbye to a few of our members.
Some of our noble friends have decided that they would like to step out, at least temporarily, and I figured I’d let you guys know. Whenever someone is removed, I will put a farewell comment here for them, and so you all know.
At the end of the week, more will probably be…[Read more]

Who has sat down to plot and then ended up with all of their ideas going splat onto the page and not making any sense to how a book needs to be structured? Me too. A few years ago, (yikes, crazy to think that it was only just over three years) I would just come up with the intro, the complication, the plot twist, the climax, and the conclusion.…[Read more]

Hey all! As a couple of you probably have noticed, your guildmaster is currently off (on a skiing trip, of all things) and I have stepped in again as a substitute. 😛

Hello Parimis!
Don’t let the title scare you, I’m not totally leaving you! I’m just going to be away for a week starting…basically now. 🙁 My school is taking us on a ski trip so that we are out of the way of the poor year 12s who are sitting trial exams at the moment. Prologues. I figured I’d do a post on prologues as it is one of those things that a lot of people get confused on, and often they get confused on it regarding pacing and suspense. (Plus, y’know, @steward-of-the-pen may or may not have asked about them.)
So without any further ado, here is how you can use prologues in your story.
Use them when…[Read more]

@sarah-vdh Ooooh yup. And they’re all interrelated as well which helps.
@steward-of-the-pen Prologues are often great. *nodnod* I know exactly what you mean though. Some just seem so out of place and are essentially a cheap way to try and create suspense.
However, I think that if you have…[Read more]
