  • I like to listen to Lord of the Rings soundtrack as well as epic, emotional, and celtic music. I play the piano so music effects me and makes me motivated so listening to something often lets some new ideas flow in.

This was what I listening to while I was typing yesterday:…[Read more]

    13th Birthday Sabotage
    RAE

Nahim Nayhelm was today twenty-one. The Laxorian landscape of tall grasslands was filled with armored Realn as they prepared for the ensuing battle on the old ruin grounds of the city of Laxan. As Nahim’s hands glided through the checks of his weapons, he thought back through all the birthdays he had had o…[Read more]

I have two brothers and no sisters, none of whom write. I have no idea where I got this love for writing since no one that I know of in my family does. I have to write things by hand first either on paper or on my digital notebook from the company Mobiscribe, I just have to write it in good ol’ cursive too since my print has some of the worst…[Read more]

    @abrielle Looking into Sanderson

    • 😃
He’s a great author. Be warned though, the third Mistborn book gets a little gory and all three are mildly depressing, but also REALLY GOOD.
Honestly, my personal favorites are the Rithmatist and Skyward (which I just reread for, like, the fifth time).

That is comforting that rants are welcome because (beware) Ru Eis has a lot of rants she can cast forth.
Your story sounds intriguing. I’m curious who these people are and their backstories.
I’m a fan of backstories and that is where my plots often come from. For Guardian Angels, when I figured out the fact that his family was dead and how it…[Read more]

Igua does have a tragic past as Nahim does, his father was a Cloak but his mother grew up and raised him in a little town where he got his strange accent and his awful habit of slang. When they get into full swing it’s called another language but hey! It’s faster to say stuff. His mother supported her husband but never became a Cloak. When his f…[Read more]

Thanks, though I might not post the 2nd chap for a while since it needs some work which I’ve got to do but after that I’m up to chap 4 in typing and chap 10 in writing. Thanks Abrielle, your replies and words give me courage.

I do enjoy reading but only because of Tolkien. I hated reading until I read the Hobbit and then I realized books are interesting! I started the Silmarillion but about halfway I had to stop to read for school and cannot find my place. I remember quite a bit IF I jog my memory. I would like to emulate Tolkien but yet make my own style so I’m not…[Read more]

Thanks, I need all the help I can get. My big brother (C) thinks the lego sets are cool for star wars and I have watched some of them. Realn are not my version of Mandalorians though, the Fettians which C made up to be way cooler and worse for storylines (He likes making me figure out how to make up a good story, he likes thinking up the coolest…[Read more]

Hi, I’m Ru, (‘roo’) as my brothers call me.

I’m new to the forum but have been writing since I was twelve so almost two years (that’s only if you omit the short short stories I had before I was twelve but I don’t talk about those! Lol.) I like fantasy and sci-fi but right now I’m doing the revision draft of a sci-fi called Guardian Angels, a…[Read more]

    • Hi Rae! Igua sounds like an interesting character. Random thing, but I’m very curious about the aversion to butterknives. Has he got some kind of tragic history involving them?
Also, about him and Skullcrusher, could you throw them into a bit of trouble together? Make them learn each other’s languages under stress and by necessity, if that makes…[Read more]

    • Rants are welcome! Hey, your plot sounds good! I have a habit of coming up with a million characters, half a dozen story lines, and then trying to smoosh it all together. You can probably guess that it doesn’t work great. For example, my novel work in progress (though I have a short story I have to finish first):
      A. Rhianna, the Loki, is an…[Read more]

      • Ru from the now present just poking something in. A common sample of Igua’s slang is, “The effe (ef-ee) woul’e dest.” Translation: “The effect would be devastating.” Now you can see why his Cloak Circle BEGGED him to learn how to speak normally!

    • HA thank you for mentioning backstories, I just realized that literally only two of those characters have them. This is still a relatively new story. Also, I made a conscious effort not to make sad characters, who are the ones that really need those. Something to work on!
How many brothers do you have? Do any of your siblings write? I have two…[Read more]

Hey. It’s RAE. I have been trying to write a book called Guardian Angels, a space story. Can I get some constructive criticism on the first chapter?

    1. Laxan
Billowing smoke filled the air. Lava drooled into the city streets. Rock soared into the air to land on crawling Nanian bugs. Ash was mixed in with every shaking breath. They had lost. The…[Read more]

    • Hi Rae! I haven’t really ever offered criticism on other people’s writing before. Apologies in advance for anything that comes across as too harsh.
First off, I like it! It’s a cool idea. For some reason, I’m getting Mandalorian vibes (do you watch Star Wars? ).
However, it does feel a little wordy. Would it be possible to get outside of the…[Read more]
