My favorite quote is this from Hamlet, Act 5, Scene 2, lines 211-16:
HAMLET
Not a whit. We defy augury. There’s a
special providence in the fall of a sparrow.
If it be now, ’tis not to come. If it be not to
come, it will be now. If it be not now, yet it
will come—the readiness is all. Since no
man of aught…[Read more]

Brian,
Thank you for the response, it was most interesting to read your thoughts. I’m glad I have found someone else who also thinks that Hamlet genuinely loves Ophelia.
I think that Hamlet is disillusioned with marriage and women in general, after being so hurt by his mother’s actions and, also, since his overtures…[Read more]

With all the desire to portray Hamlet in a new and interesting light which (I assume) runs rampant through the minds of actors and critics alike, do you know why most, if not every, “get thee to a nunnery” scene is portrayed with violence?
I should like to see it differently done.

I really love this one, from the end of Julius Caesar:
His life was gentle, and the elements
So mixed in him that Nature might stand up
80And say to all the world, “This was a man.”Why? partly because it’s a praise of Brutus, whom I liked, but mostly because I think it a very high compliment; not that he was ric…[Read more]

That is precisely why I loved Hamlet’s speech. It also reminded me of the lyrics/message of one of my favorite bands. I love the way his speech is used in Brave New World, which I had actually read before Hamlet.

That’s very impressive! Your characters sound very… human. Aren’t we all “flawed, wounded, and guilty, yet seeking”? If that doesn’t describe humanity, nothing would. It’s important to have characters like that, as it’s the most real thing you could have in a story. Best of luck with your journey, Brian, and…[Read more]

Thank you for the tip! That would work a lot better than what i currently wrote. I know Jake is technically waking up in a strange scenario, but it would probably be better if he didn’t struggle and waited to see what would happen.
Again, thank you for the fighting tips! They are certainly one of my many weak spots…[Read more]

Brian, I’m so sorry to hear about your uncle! May I ask if you know what happened? When is the funeral scheduled?
That’s wonderful, though that he knew the Lord. How is your aunt? And how can we be praying for you this week?
Thank you for the link. I checked it out. Hobbiton is so beautiful! I couldn’t quite tell…[Read more]

Thank you, Lily. He had leukemia and was sent home on hospice. He wasn’t expected to pass so soon, though. The funeral is on Monday at 10 am CST. It is a 4 1/2 hour drive so we have to leave tomorrow.
My aunt is doing okay with God’s grace helping her. They were married almost 60 years. (Would have been 60 in June.)
I think my favorite movie of…[Read more]

Thank you for the tip! I was thinking something was off with that scene! If one of the guards hit Jake in the stomach with his knee, would that work?
I just love how Story Embers has writers and authors of various age groups!

Phew! Okay. Sometimes I log in late on Story Embers too *haha*
Sorry this reply is late. (Happy Wednesday, by the way!) My dad expanded one of our closets so we have extra storage now (our house is small.) And we’ve been putting everything back (erm, minus one box that I still have to clean out; but I’m not…[Read more]

Hi Lily,
My dad typically preaches through the biblical books, so on Sundays, he is presently in 1 Peter, and on Wednesday nights he is going through the Book of Jeremiah.
I found out my uncle on Dad’s side (his sister’s husband) passed away this morning, so we are going to another funeral. It has been a hard year, but I am so grateful tho…[Read more]

We live in challenging times prophetically, but as writers, we know that God is still in control even when it looks like all things that bring us comfort in life are stripped away.
Amen.
There will always be those claiming that times are worse than ever or that the end of the world is coming, but when one studies…[Read more]

I’m sorry to hear about your mom, Brian. It’s hard losing a parent, I know, but it will get easier as time passes. After a while the pain fades away and you focus more on the good moments you had with her. Is there a memory you have of her that makes you laugh?
I agree that 2022 needs to be the year for comedy! All…[Read more]

Hey brother, I’ve got one word for you: Banter
Other than that, I love having a character who is always up to shenanigans, or is flippant in behavior. Juxtapose this character’s facetious mind or actions with a serious situation, and humor abounds.

Hey Brian!! Good to see you around!
Whew! The last two years have been… (behemoth understatement) rough!

Hi Brian! I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to keep you up late. Me and all my questions. So sorry about that 🙂

Wow, you’ve been to a lot of mountains! Which has been your guys’ favorite so far? I read Christie by Catherine Marshall back in highschool; have you ever read or seen the tv adaptation? It’s set in the Smoky Mountains, and the setting is just gorgeous.

My favorite has probably been the Colorado Rockies, though each of the mountainous places has its own unique charm. Recently we went to Breckenridge, CO and it was such a peaceful place.
