Thank you, Joshua! Do your dragons breathe fire? Seems like your dragons could pretty much clear out a cave of “bludryx”, if so. What would make a dragon fear a “bludryx”? Is there another quality they possess that could bring down a dragon? If a dragon belches smoke, does the smoke overpower their sense of smell? If subtle noises agitate…[Read more]

Yeah, you guessed it. I thought that was funny and almost sprayed my computer screen with the mouthful of java I was drinking when I read her blog post. Note to self: Joelle loathes coffee. 😂

Hi Jared (@jared-williams)
Man, that resonates with me as well! My Blog began as a kind of quasi-devotional using a loose fantasy story as a vehicle, but soon I learned that breaking the fourth wall, and attempting to use the first-person narrator didn’t really work and made the going difficult. The story needed to be front and center. Th…[Read more]

Hey guys and gals,
I just wanted to ask you creatives what is the most bizarre creature you have ever made up for your works in fiction and what did you call it?
I have a very strange set of pale white aquatic creatures with a living nest of their eel-like young that sprout from their heads and have sharp beak-like jaws that serve to catch prey…[Read more]

Hey Jared,
Man, I love your ideas and website. I need more worldbuilding in my WIP, but from your website, it looks like you are well on your way.
I am finding fantasy to be a fun way to explore larger thematic concepts. I think fantasy has had a resurgence as a genre since the LOTR movies were made. My wife and I had th…[Read more]

Hi Jared,
I totally agree. I am a writer-in-progress with much need of help from fellow authors and readers.
This is my second pass through the “editing” of my WIP, and I’ve taken to doing dramatic recordings of it with atmospheric background and music. I think it helps me visualize not just what is going on in the foreground,…[Read more] -

Hi, Karissa (@karissa-chmil),
That is a great question:
The need arises within me to express in a story what I cannot just contemplate abstractly. I need to see and feel concepts working out through peopled experiences with living and learning rather than just hearing what they say. Writing stories is a meaningful way for me to make some s…[Read more]

Hi Karissa (@karissa-chmil)
I write fantasy, some sci-fi, but like to blend in suspense and a mix of biblical mysteries.
I have done a sort of [unpublished] adaptation of a fairy tale (a Russian fairy tale translated “Sister and Brother”). I once saw a picture of their classical witch character called “Baba Yaga” who travels through the…[Read more]

Hi Erynne!
I hope you are feeling better. I am so sorry you were sick.
Is your brother extorting money from you? 😁
I’d pay him in Monopoly money and tell him to invest in bitcoin. Sounds like he might be a stock trader when he grows up. Did you ever see the e-Trade baby commercial on TV?

You are most welcome, Braelynn! I attended my first one last year on Engaging Plots and highly recommended it. In fact, I believe they even took my quote and put it on this year’s ad. 🙂
I will have to miss one day of it though because it is my wife’s B-Day and I am taking her out for something special. But I will catch up la…[Read more] -

Hey Peter (@crazywriter ),
Are you going to participate in this year’s Resonant Themes Summit?
Just wondering what your plans were. My wife’s birthday is on the 22nd, so I will miss part of it, but I bought the set that allows me to go back later and catch up. Hope to get to see you there.
I think we are more aligned in most aspects of this t…[Read more]

Hi Karissa!
Welcome to the Story Embers Forums! I think you are going to like it here. This is a great group. What a fine name! I actually have a character with a name similar to yours in my WIP. Her name is “Miray” pronounced, “Meer -AY”, and she is just precious. Such a delight to write.
Welcome to SE! There are a lot of great people here!

Hi Braelynn! Very pleased to meet you and so glad you could join us on SE.
That is a very big undertaking, but an important one. Too many follow the “truth is relative” idea towards their own destruction.
Are you attending the upcoming Resonant Themes Summit? SE has some great sessions lined up.

Hi Noah,
Unfortunately, we are presently living in a real dystopian plot covering your first two bullet points.
But as to ideas, there is one that is not mentioned.
It is as old as the Garden of Eden and it is Satan’s lie repackaged.

Thank you for this article, Allison!
I think this is such an important point. If the story does not tap into what authentically changes us personally then it is hard to expect it to change or resonate authentically with others.
An accurate portrayal of God begs that we mine form an authentic and personal encounter with Him. Not just in the…[Read more]

Yeah, certain dragons do. There are eyeless dragons much like them who live in caves as part of their ecosystem and can use sharp piercing sounds as a weapon to ward off the bludryx when they get bold with their numbers. Bludryx just use their endurance, jaws, and numbers to overwhelm large prey. Smoke and heat is the best way to keep them at bay.…[Read more]
