Hi @katie02,
What if the grandmother is knitting something unusual? That could break a stereotype.
Here’s an example: What if she knits burial shrouds for the local funeral parlor. She uses her skill to give people a certain dignity in death. Say she knits an ornate face covering that softens the impact of their deathly repose.
A ste…[Read more]

Hi Jared (@jared-williams),
Yeah, I get it. But the idea that anything but God can give life is where I diverge. I have always hated zombie stories because it seems to imply a life after death that is wholly given credit to “devils”. The only thing I might could concede is animated dead flesh with another entity in possession of the body. But…[Read more]

Hi Joshua (@storysmith),
Are the other characters (non-Kragvora) human? I would think the lethality of the venom would increase with the dosage. If a small dosage is lethal, then the victim would be dead before the venom had a chance to permeate its circulatory system or infect tissues. There are a variety of factors as far as effects that wo…[Read more]

Joshua (@storysmith)
There is a great deal of wisdom in your words.
Too often people who fear for the future are imagining dreadful scenarios where God is not present.
Amen, my brother! I look forward to hearing more about the story as you develop it.

Hi Joshua, (@storysmith)
Perhaps I just noticed the parallels because of the biblical study I have been doing. I do know that the primary purpose of prophecy is not so much that God merely is wanting us to know the future, but especially that He wants us to know that He holds the future and has full knowledge of it so that we can trust Him as…[Read more]

Wow, Joshua!
I love this. It does seem to have some real-world parallels, using a very creative fantasy palate. I have read of some real-world psychopathic scientists that are actively involved in chimeric genetic abominations aimed at “redesigning” the human genome to “enhance humanity” into their psychotic view of the next stage…[Read more]

Hi Joshua,
So the Kragvora are both humanoid and…
Are they part insect as well with a carapace or is the formation of some other substance like a tortoiseshell or some reptilian spine/scales.
Where does their mental collective reside? At they Borg-like and assimilate their knowledge in some remote collective brain that they…[Read more]

Gabby,
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this article! I so needed to hear this and practice it. I am one of those self-critical editors that stress over finding the optimal placement of the article ‘a” in any given sentence.
I do need to find that volume switch on my internal editor and crank it down a few thousand decibels if I am ever…[Read more] -

These are very intriguing sets of creatures.
I have others in my WIP, but the Moonsprite/Gorgon/Jengu is the most bizarre one, I have imagined.
I have three dragons in my story as well: A Dust Dragon, which tunnels underground and avoids daylight. A Leviathan that takes its description from Job 41, Isaiah 27:1. AN…[Read more]

Hi Jared
Yes, there is some similarity, but I think it is more akin to the Narnian concept, rather than Dekker’s Circle series (Black, Red, White & Green and the subsequent Beyond the Circle duology). Dekker’s extraction is a dystopian future. Mine is more like the concept of the mystical Wood between the Worlds in Lewis’s T…[Read more]

Hi Noah! @noah-cochran
The three hundred word limit is very tough. Can we get a vote for upping it to 350? 🙂
Here’s my second character part:

Now that Dad is dead, I never wanted to come back here again. I saw him…[Read more]

Not sure if this is what you were looking for: (320 words)

Hi Erynne!
I am so far behind on emails. I am sorry if I haven’t replied. I subscribed to a lot of newsletters recently and I think I am getting a little behind in reading. Plus I have had a project assigned to me at work and I’m am finding very little time to keep plunging through my current novel. I am enjoying your newsletter, by the way. I…[Read more]-
No problem! I was just wondering. I’m thrilled you’re enjoying the newsletter. Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to send pt 2 of the comedy thing this week. I have had a very busy and stressful week and didn’t have time to work on it. I’ll be praying for you and your work project.

Uh…. Rose (@rose-colored-fancy) and Merie (@merieshenanigans)
Per the following…
Make it at least 3 authors, because I have a “seven obsession” as well. Every one of my Chapters has at least seven scenes or a multiple of seven scenes (14 max).
Totally onboard with the sevens and their biblical connections.

Hi Joelle,
You didn’t. It was from your “Never Have I Ever Tag” Q&A on your newsletter. I happened to be reading it while having my morning cup of java. When Rose brought up coffee, my mind remembered how you said you could “hardly choke down a sip” of it, and there I was gulping it like a fish. 😂 - Load More
