Hello Parimis!
I’ve noticed that a lot of people are just scattered about at the moment and I think it may well be holidays elsewhere in the world, (or some sort of event) and people are fairly busy. So this is just an invite to:
– Share ideas
– Share what you’ve learned
– Share any resources
– Catch up on anything you’ve missed out on

A letter has appeared, carried by a small steampunk dragon. It drops it into your hand, flies aboround you a few times and then turns back to its home land. Your gaze drops down to the envelope and you see that it is addressed to you. You open it, and it reads:
Hello Patimis!
Us Guildmasters have been talking a bit lately, and decided that we…

Hello Parimis!
One thing that I’ve just had playing on my mind is similar to what we we talking about back at Choice of Information. (something that was asked to be looked into more.) And the thing I’m thinking of? Description. Or more specifically, over description. Shockingly, it is one of the things that will either kill a scene’s tension, or…[Read more]

J.A.Penrose started the topic Lesson 8 : Timing of Backstory in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 11 months ago
Hello Parimis!
One of the things that I gleaned out of the last lesson was that something I need to look at is when to release key information.
Often in writing, the character’s backstory is really important to the plot. Maybe the fact that Johnny spent seven years in prison is why he plans to betray the main character. Maybe Amy’s obsession…[Read more]

Okay guys! It looks like we are just about done! *gasps* I’ll be turning this in in about TWELVE hours. (Speaking in hours so that this makes sense internationally.) Any changes and/suggestions must be made by then!
Thanks everyone who has participated, and woot you guys are…[Read more]

Hey guys!
After a few more little edits, we’ve gotten this draft just about done! All we need is to give the rest of you an opportunity to look at it and make any comments and suggestions that you can think of. I’ll be checking this fairly regularly to make sure that any ideas get checked out. Be sure to hop over to the doc and leave any…[Read more]

Hello Parimis!
This week is a bit different again.
Our Annual Theme is Pacing and Suspense. And I’ve been doing a few little activities each week to help you get the hang of that. But today, I want to ask you what you want to know.
Just comment below regarding what you want to know about for Pacing and Suspense, or anything there that we…[Read more]

Hey guys!
So far, it looks like the general consensus is for the young girl jumping off the train and being shocked by the world around her. I’m also thinking to get really nice character voice, we should go for first person (present or past) as that is a very deeply biased voice.
@Esjohnson has made a different suggestion on the doc, but I…[Read more]

@cassie-hartfinh Sounds interesting. One of the main things we need to be keeping in mind though is that we need the character voice to be amazing. Super unique and real. Often it is good to display this through, as @steward-of-the-pen suggested, something we’re all familiar with. Then again, we don’t all want to do the exact same thing.
I think…[Read more]

@northerner Ooh, those books sound cool! You said protag and I had to think a moment to figure out you meant protagonist, lol. I don’t know very many abbreviations. Hashtag sheltered, lol.

@northerner Haha, sorry, we’ll be sure to tone it down a bit. *patpat* Ironically, I think most of us are introverts. I myself am an INFP, so, kinda ironic that I can seem fairly energized via technology.
Hope you enjoy being a Parimi!
@steward-of-the-pen Ah cool cool. I’ll see what I can do. I’m just having to contact the inactive members…[Read more]

@northerner You’re welcome!
Ahhhhhh. I suppose I can understand that— the second point more than the first. I’ve generally thought of acting as only a few points off from normal storytelling (in which you are also saying something that isn’t necessarily true, but which hopefully reveals some truth). That said, I also have a few friends who are v…[Read more]

@Northerner,
I laughed.Many of these I have not read, and now as such are on my list. I actually own one of Christine de Pisan’s works – The Book of Deeds, of Arms, and of Chivalry, which I originally picked up as reading to inspire and guide the creation of my beloved/terrifying Countess Kyreleis, her tactical and strategic mind fused with…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose Wait, did you just say “guildlings”? EEEP! I promise not to tackle them the moment they arrive, and I think you’re much nicer than Guildmaster Clout. *wink*
Quick question, one of my friends joined Story Embers and we’d like to be in the same guild. Would she have to request to join Parimi Alca (and if so how?), or would she end up…[Read more]
