Yeah, you have to backspace out the emojis when you quote them on yonder forum, otherwise it turns into mega-size.
Incidentally, I have never seen a forum like this before – apparently this forum runs on WordPress – it’s a WP plugin that allows it to exist. Weirdness. So I’m not sure how a permanent technical fix could be implemented on the…[Read more]

idk, I was just wondering if that was your thing. I do enjoy those.
Yep, and the Purgatorio and Paradiso by Dante are both epic poems. The Inferno is simply the first – and most famous – of the three.
Songwriting? Most recent thing ended up here: https://storyembers.org/forums/topic/lyrical-poems-are-welcome-here/page/14/#post-89349

Ah, yes! The evil empire! Looks like it is quite multifaceted in this edition. I am looking forward to reading this book.
Clearly the fisher woman saved the universe, obviously. Wait, that was one of my stories. Never mind. š

Iāll pass on the Dr. Pepper; Spriteās my drink.
Pleasure to meet a fellow poet, though. Do you think you would enjoy a poetry reading?
I tend to like all types of poetry, though my mainline ones tend to be about theology and literature. I do like the epic styles – my more recent conquest was reading Danteās Inferno, heh.
And I have written songs…

Ack, the word āmoviesā really takes away from this stanza. āto mark your passageā Ā may be an alternative. This reason why I say that is that we have high fantasy symbology clashing real hard with a commonplace reference to modern movies.
This passage kinda feels like a little too much telling. I might be over analyzing this a bit, but I th…[Read more]

*puts on nerd hat* Oof. As someone who has had to recover from a life of poor examples of love and learn the hard way…wait, isnāt that everyone to an extent?…never mind…here we go. (Still learning over here, but this might help.)

Edit: Also, I was writing this whole thing in 2nd person past tense because it’s funnier, but for some reason the old brain kept wanting to make it present tense. In any event, this:
Should be this: 3. You checked out the rocket and reasoned that you would give Jerry the safety papers later – go to 8.

YES! It would be like Down to the Scum Quarter by Garth Nix, from the book Across the Wall. That is hilarious!
I did pull out my writing manual. The second person story is a bit too risque for yonder forum, but the style I think may work. Let’s try this:

*headscratch* The universal problem with 2nd person is that it tends to come across as accusatory. But maybe in this case it can be played for laughs. It depends on what you did.
I remember that there is a good example of 2nd person writing in my writer’s handbook. I’ll come back to this thread when I’ve gotten home from college and can grab it,…[Read more]

*nods* I think the difficulty becomes in focusing on what you’re doing these days. For example, even with reading I find that my brain wants to jump out of whatever I’m doing and go check something, whether a forum or a game or whatever. I blame the evil internet marketing machine. The most annoying thing is when something reminds me of a song,…[Read more]

Speaking as someone who has actually tried to evangelize a transgender person and witness properly to a group of transgender/LGTBQA individuals, the big thing is avoiding pride (that’s what they do with them gay pride events, so that’s not what we should do, heh). You just take the simple paragraph, expand on it and make it your own, then leave another paragraph to be expanded upon. The goal is to make simple descriptions better (or maybe get help from your fellow writers with lame descriptions in your writing that need fixed). See the first post of the thread.
For example, for the last paragraph I gave…[Read more]

I’ve seen Incredibles 1 and 2. Good movies with a lot of character – I love Pixar’s characters. (I liked the first Incredibles better, simply because it had more action in it.)

*headscratch* @faith_blum Does anyone have some guidelines for goal-setting? While I agree with this philosophy expoused here for the most part, that angery question “Why do you write?” is too much. When I was younger, I turned to books as an escape from reality, not as a way to understand my own reality. As I’ve grown older, that has totally changed.
