I started my book with my main character. One day I said ‘Oh I should write a book!’ then I thought up my main character (Jered Martin) and just started with that. No plot or anything lol! A lot of times I’ll start my short stories with my characters also. Sometimes I’ll think of a feeling and go from there. 🙂

I love it here! We were in a much more difficult third-world country before SA, so I think it’s great, even though there’s a lot of crime and corruption. South Africa is a beautiful country with such so many diverse cultures!
Lol, I’m glad I’m not the only one! 😉

@michael-erasmus Where do you live in South Africa?
-
@kristianne-hassman I’m from Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, but I’m spending lockdown on a relative’s farm near Potch. What about you?
-
I have no idea where those places are, but that’s cool! I live in Primrose, Johannesburg. 🙂
-
@kristianne-hassman Nice! Vanderbijlpark is about 50 minutes from Johannesburg. Potchefstroom is in the North-West Province, well-known for its university. 🙂
-
-
Oh ok, that’s nice to know! 🙂

That’s cool that you’re South African! I’m actually American, but my family has lived here for the past seven years as missionaries. 🙂
That’s neat you write fantasy! And yes, world history is fascinating. So much good material there to use for stories.
Sorry, I don’t speak Afrikaans. I know, I know, I should probably learn…[Read more]

I have started most of my stories with a what if situation behind some character I have existing inside of my mind. Some of my stories have developed from a what do YOU want to wwrite about with my friends.
I have currently only written a few works on my own and my WIP actually started from a “well this was…[Read more] -

*grins* I sometimes think I’m like that with math. I think I understand it, and I think I know how to do it, and then I do it and it doesn’t work and I’m just like “How?? I thought I knew this??” XD
Maybe? I’m really not sure lol. But either way, socially awkward extrovert here 😛
Ah, nice! I’ve only ever used a compound bow,…[Read more]

Ah yes… classical… 😀 I have two (or three?) CDs full of Mozart. *nods*
😀 It was fun! Ish. I think I’d ride it again. Think of holding a pencil parallel to the floor, and, keeping it parallel, moving it in clockwise and counterclockwise circles along the plane that’s perpendicular to the floor. (Does that makes sense??) The…[Read more]

Hello, and welcome! I’m rather late in my welcome, but here it is anyways 🙂
I’m Livi! I also write fantasy, and I also dabble in poetry. Programming is all well and good until I have to do it, which, luckily, I haven’t ever had to try to program XD It wouldn’t turn out well. At all.
*coughs*
Anyways.

Only one I can think of that hasn’t been mentioned yet is The King Sword by Micah Cooley. It’s one of the only “Christian” fantasy I’ve enjoyed.
I also really liked Broken Arrow by Azaria Durant. It’s not explicitly christian, but I know the author is, so for whatever that’s worth.
If you read the Circle (trilogy) Series, do not read Green. J…[Read more]

The story sounds good. I feel like you’ll probably write it well because the characters seem to have very clear aims, which helps keep a story cohesive. I like the dad being a dreamer. I could see it either way with the boy.
I don’t know what you think of it, but it could be cool of the pagan gods, while not Gods could still be…[Read more]

That is interesting. It’s neat how different stories can come across to different people.
I don’t know if I have much to say about what you wrote (brain isn’t working right now) but it does sound really neat, and from what you described of your story world it sounds similar to a story world I have that I’m including…[Read more]

@michael-erasmus I really like what you’re trying to aim for. There’s a quote by Flannery ‘O Connor which goes something like, “The greatest dramas feature the salvation or loss of a soul. Without an eternal soul, drama lacks life.” I think playing with salvation and damnation, a capital G God, and man’s relationship with him is high drama. It’s…[Read more]

We do have people from many parts of the world on here, but I don’t know all their user names.
One thing you could do is scroll to the bottom of the main forum page.
See the section that says “there is currently 4 users online”? If you regularly check there, you’ll start to find the people who are online during…[Read more]

@michael-erasmus Oof, yeah, that sounds like a hard situation! However, I know there are a few writers on here from Australia and New Zealand. . . don’t know that they’re super close to your time zone, either, but maybe they’re better?? Maybe you guys would want to do some kind of writing group? Wish I could remember who specifically was from…[Read more]

@michael-erasmus Ooh… It varies for me. Usually, I’ll be doing a writing exercise with my writing club… and after I write my couple paragraphs or whatever, I look at it and go “this is actually really cool.” That’s kinda what happened with my NaNo plot for last year. I had drawn a picture of a tiny owl sitting under a mushroom, and I used that…[Read more]

@michael-erasmus Great question! 😀 It really depends on the story for me. My first book started with a simple idea, and I literally had no plot. *insert facepalm here* 🤦♀️
With my current WIP, however, I started with an idea of the MC and idea of my fantasy world. Then I expanded on it to create the plot. But like I previously mentioned, it…[Read more]

I kind of tend to just get a “feel” for a story, I guess. I might have some concept that’s been really on my mind and all of a sudden it blooms into a story(Sort of like my Hi-Fi WIP, which just began with the idea of war-time pen pals and the concept of accountability and loyalty.), or I get an image of a story I want to write.…[Read more]
