@daeus-lamb This is awesome! Even though this question didn’t come to my mind, I think this is stuff I needed to hear. Thank you 🙂

@lady-iliara @gabbyj @daeus-lamb Adding on to that idea (idk if you all have started your outlines yet) what if we trick the reader into thinking that this healer is witnessing a death scene, but then it turns into the death scene of the healer himself, with us finding out the healer’s ability not until around the climax? Just a thought.

Maybe to add on to @m_corrinemusic ‘s ideas of an alternate POV is that we could have an animal in the vicinity too (written in 3rd person, maybe? Then we could switch around). “The badger lifted its head. It smelled death” or something along those lines, like what happened with the dog at the end of Jack London’s To Build a Fire.

@kate I definitely like it better! It’s smoother and more concise, and as for the info being presented… I don’t really know how to judge that (you’re the author) but it certainly comes at the conflict from a clearer angle (like knowing about the rebels). So, pretty good 🙂

@kate It sounds super cool!
I think the sentence “Forbidden books, smuggled into his hands by his mischievous playmate Princess Eira, are no longer enough” kind of derails the forward motion of the blurb and makes the reader step back and think for a second on what it’s actually saying. It might have to do with where it is placed or the way it…[Read more]

Grace replied to the topic What do you want to improve in with character development? in the forum Announcements 7 years, 11 months ago
@daeus-lamb Exactly what I needed 🙂
My biggest struggle in character development… is… actually doing it. :/ In the novel I want to finish this year, everybody seems alright except my protagonist. I haven’t even nailed her name yet. As a writer, I am plot-based and will generally want to write a story because of a plot instead of a character,…[Read more]

@daeus-lamb Cool 🙂 Here are my thoughts:
What’s the best example of bondage you’ve seen in literature?
My mind is great at going blank when I need to remember… xD But the Ring was an excellent example. I read Oliver Twist recently for English class, and Nancy’s predicament was heart-breaking as well.
How do we write about bondage witho…[Read more]

@daeus-lamb Like @livgiordano, I’m taking a break at the moment from personal writing, but in the other stuff I’m doing, I may be able to reach 1000. Eh… I’ll sign up, here’s hoping 😉

Oh, goodness. I’m totally with @livgiordano in that this is all becoming very intriguing indeed. (Also, Liv, I would totally relate to the assassin who needs to kill someone a different way every time. Even killers need variety).
I’m not quite sure I’ll be able to answer the questions without fear of repeating what everybody else has said, but my…[Read more]

@daeus-lamb (and everybody) I want to do a blog post this week and finish the next letter in the medieval-fantasy letter story I am writing back and forth with my friend. (Because school is finishing this month and a million other crazy things are happening, I’ve put off all my personal writing projects until the summer.)
I’m actually more…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose Yes, it’s amazing how many of us managed to get in here. And thanks so much! I’m glad that the poem seems to have gotten the message/feeling across.
You may be a third-culture-adult, so there might be some more obscure term that describes you 🙂 If you don’t mind me asking, where are you a missionary to?

Grace replied to the topic What's been your biggest breakthrough with character development? in the forum Announcements 7 years, 11 months ago
Mine is a little bit like @kate in that I realized I need to feel my character within my heart and attune to their longings, rather than producing facts about them. Details about personality won’t have much impact without their heart, their person, behind it.

Grace replied to the topic The First Guild War in the forum Announcements 7 years, 11 months ago
Like @r-m-archer @kate and @mcnoggin I think we should put the description into a story, which can provide oppurtunities for character, dialogue, and symbolic/thematic meaning of the sunrise itself. Besides, 2,500 words is a lot for a stand-alone description.
@daeus-lamb When do we need to submit by?

@daeus-lamb Thanks! TCK means Third Culture Kid, and for me it means that I’m neither fully Taiwanese or American, but I’m a mix of both, understand both cultures to a degree, and can get the sense of not being able to belong in a specific place. (Basically, everything I explored in the poem.) I’m glad that you were able to sense it, though.
