Hey Ereki!
Just wanted to pop in this portion of the forum because I feel like it’s been a bit of a ghost town ever since SE’s short story contest caused a bit of a rush of activity here.
I’m admittedly one of the worst of us at actually critiquing other people’s things. I don’t make the time that I ought to for it. But despite that, I do want to make a conscious effort to revive the practice by seeing if we can create some more order to the process.
What I’m suggesting right now is that we have a designated two weeks set aside for one guild member. They can submit a piece of their own choosing at the beginning of that time period (might be a month, depending on the consensus here), and the rest of us critique it – offering constructive, helpful feedback on it.
What do you guys think of this idea? We could have a sign-up sheet for those who want to be subjected to this, and those who would prefer not to are under no obligation to send anything in. For those looking for feedback, we’d set up a rotation and devote a set amount of time to offering them critique. That way we ensure that people actually get feedback, instead of posting something in here and hoping that one or two people will give it a passing glance.
I’d like to be dedicated to helping one another grow practically as writers, and I think this is one big area that we currently aren’t doing the best at. As guildmaster, that’s on me. But this is an idea I had to remedy this. Let me know your thoughts! I always welcome input and fresh ideas. 😀
