Martin Detwiler started the topic Writing Life: Conclusion and UPDATE! in the forum Weekly Theme Discussion 6 years, 9 months ago
Hello Ereki!
First of all, an apology for my radio silence for all of last week. A couple things in my personal life went wonky and I allowed that to overrun my responsibilities to you all, and for that I do apologize.
Second, the Writing Life series of Weekly Discussions has come to a conclusion! We’ve covered a lot of ground and a huge variety of topics from the entire panel of Guildmasters. I hope it was informative and pushed you to think and rethink about new areas of your life as a writer!
Third in the order of business, the Weekly Discussions are no longer on my roster of responsibilities. As we discussed a few weeks ago, while the discussions seem to be helpful, there’s nothing particularly special about these discussions taking place in the guilds; so it might be advantageous to move the discussions to a place where the entire forum could participate. We’re still working on that second half, but we did make a decision to call an end to the Weekly Discussions that coincided with the end of our Writing Life series.
However, that doesn’t mean these are dead. That’s fully and completely up to us! Personally, I had fun writing the weekly discussion posts back when we were tackling one topic for a couple months at a time. It allowed me to analyze what I have learned as a writer (and what is perhaps more helpful), and think of ways to communicate that in (hopefully) understandable ways. In addition, I feel like we had a little bit more interest in those discussions in general, and it would be cool to get back to that.
However, there may be something else we can begin to do in place of a Weekly Discussion. At this point in time, I want to open up the forum here so that we can make a collective decision about what we’re going to do next with this particular subforum.
If we do continue Weekly Discussions, I’d like to make sure everyone knows that it’s open to more voices than just mine. I’d love to see volunteers tackling a week here and there. I know I’m definitely not the only one in the guild with writing insight, and it would be really cool to hear from some of you as well. Again, this is all meant to be a spur towards group discussion, so anything that gets us moving in that direction is a go in my book.
If we don’t continue Weekly Discussions, but decide to morph this into something else that will help build a sense of community and involvement, that’s cool, tool.
Let’s talk!
