@morreafirebird I really like your point that writing is actually predominantly thinking, because that works very well with the whole idea of maintaining the Artist’s Eye. That’s where the 75% comes in, thinking day by day, when we’re out in the world living our lives, accumulating an awareness for the beauty and truth illustrated all around us, as well as ruminating upon our current stories. Like you said, it seems to prep the mind so that when you sit down with a blank page, there’s something already swirling around inside your head and you can begin to arrange those things right away.
@princess-foo Without a deadline from an editor and publishing house, it is quite hard to motivate oneself to write consistently. Like you said, the only one who is effected directly is yourself.
I like your strategy to overcome this, though! Transitioning to writing when you are still in ‘productivity mode’ is an excellent way to do it.
I wish I could transition immediately from working to writing like that. Unfortunately, I work a full-time job and have a fairly lengthy commute time, which means by the time I get home, I’m definitely not in productivity mode anymore. 🙁 I think I just need to reset; having a regular evening meal and then writing right afterwards is probably a good strategy for me. I’ll have to try that out.
Or I could find a good location near my work where I can write for an hour or two before heading home, so I preserve my ‘productivity mode’ and can transfer it from my work directly to my writing. *ponders* I kinda like that idea.
