Hey everyone!
Okay, I’ve changed it to present tense, but with all the confusing edits on the doc I think it will be easier if I work on finishing the draft in a separate doc. I’ll use what’s already on this doc and add to the ending to flesh out the beauty of the ordinary hands. I may need to rework some sections that are already written so it…[Read more]

This is a good point. Inside the burning house probably wouldn’t be the best place to write the reminiscing scene. @j-a-penrose @everyone_else What do you guys think?
And if you agree, how should the MC and grandmother get out? Should we use an older MC who’s able to carry the grandmother out? Should a firefighter intervene? Any other…[Read more]

@julia Yay, thanks so much for getting it started!
I think that to be more realistic, the character should help/carry/drag the grandmother out of the building before thinking about her hands. In the adrenaline rush of escaping a fire, I doubt anyone in their right mind would be able to sit and take a trip down memory lane with flames and smoke…[Read more]

I’ve been writing up a draft for the past two days and came up with this, but I feel like it’s not dramatic enough and that it’s kinda bland. After reading @julia‘s draft though, hers sounds a lot better, and I think we should go with hers. I’ll post my draft here though just in case anyone wants to take anything from it or use it on the doc…[Read more]

Okay guys. So sorry I’ve been gone, been dealing with doctors not believing me about my allergies until it was pretty obvious I was a mess, combined with the end of term rush of writing a ton of essays and music reports. *facepalm* But I’m back now.
I’m agreeing with Grandmother’s hands. Also, seeing that it has to be in a dramatic setting, maybe…[Read more]

Okay, I see what you’re all saying. Good points, good points. *nods sagely*
So we’re going with the grandmother hands then? Someone needs to draft it, soon…I would love to, but I don’t have a clear vision/path for how I would do it…

@ariella-newheart Thanks! And yes, that character in the leaf snippet does seem oddly familiar, doesn’t it. 🤔 Ironically, I was also thinking of a red-headed, wavy-haired character while writing it. Maybe I was unconsciously thinking about Ariella. xD
And also, that’s a good point. 🤔
@elisha-starquill I really like that idea, and I’d say go f…[Read more]

I know this is kind of last minute, but I have a suggestion. I really like the idea of hands, because as Sherlock would say, hands are often ignored, but they tell you a lot about a person. What if, instead of a grandmother’s hands, we did Jesus’ hands? From since he was a baby, to doing carpenter work, to healing people in his ministry, to the…[Read more]

I also really like @azeline-d‘s idea of the elderly patients hands. I was thinking about it some more today, and I had an idea.
What if the story was a string of short scenes, each maybe 1-5 paragraphs long, that shows snippets of things a granddaughter is doing with her grandmother. Each scene would skip a little farther ahead in time, with both…[Read more]

It seems like literal aeons ago, but once upon an Annual Theme of Pacing and Suspense, we looked creating a sense of suspense and atmosphere through objects in writing. And then more recently, we had a post from Martin about The Artist’s Eye, and to seek the beautiful in the ordinary everyday.
For the next two weeks, that’s exactly what we’…[Read more]

@julia Saaaame.
Writing by hand, though it be very simple and a nice distance from the internet, is just to slow and gives my hands cramps. My mind runs at a faster speed than my hand. 🙂
I do handwrite many of my poems, however, and usually begin the plotting process that way.
Yes!
I love editing by hand.

Final post until we’re caught up! *cheers*
So, this one is written by Jane, with the input of Faith and Daeus who are two of Story Embers’ self-published writers, unlike Jane who is very much neck deep in working through the traditional publishing world.
So you know from the start, both have their benefits and disadvantages. Particularly…[Read more]

Hello all!
This week’s (or more, last week’s) lesson is from Martin, and is looking at the pros and cons of typing, and writing by hand.
So, without any further rambling from Jess, let’s see what Martin has to say about notebooks and keyboards!
Things I’ve learned from my own experience with both mediums:
Typing:
Pros:
Typing is fas…[Read more]

Hey guys!
If you hadn’t noticed, we’re three weeks behind! *hides face in shame* However, I’m just going to catch it all up tonight so that we’re back on track!
This particular post was written by yours truly on why we should even write in the first place.
If you’re reading this, the chances are pretty high that you’re a writer. But how oft…[Read more]

@steward-of-the-pen – Nice, that does seem relatively easy! And you don’t have to walk her. xD Blu sounds adorable. I think I might get a parrotlet, if I can convince my parents of their joys and benefits. 😛 What kind of sounds does she make? Can she talk?
@j-a-penrose – Mainly for piano, because I’m the most comfortable with it and I love it so…[Read more]
