I think that to be more realistic, the character should help/carry/drag the grandmother out of the building before thinking about her hands. In the adrenaline rush of escaping a fire, I doubt anyone in their right mind would be able to sit and take a trip down memory lane with flames and smoke suffocating them. Maybe the character could drag the grandmother out to safety on the grass away from the building, only to realize that it is too late. Then, with the shock and grief setting in, the character might kind of retreat into his own head and just barely notice the surroundings of people fighting the fire, etc., while holding the grandmother’s hands and thinking about how beautiful they are.

This is a good point. Inside the burning house probably wouldn’t be the best place to write the reminiscing scene. @j-a-penrose @everyone_else What do you guys think?

And if you agree, how should the MC and grandmother get out? Should we use an older MC who’s able to carry the grandmother out? Should a firefighter intervene? Any other ideas?

Let’s try to finish writing this story tonight and finish fleshing it out within the next day. The last day should be used to edit last minute things and should be ready for @j-a-penrose to send it off to the judge by the end of the 30th. We can do this!
